Prince George, B.C. – The B.C. Coroners Service has released the name of the man who died early this morning as a result of injuries suffered in last night’s explosion and fire at the Lakeland Mills sawmill.
43-year-old Alan Little was a shift supervisor at the plant. He died of his injuries at University Hospital of Northern B.C. at 5:30 this morning. He was one of 49 people who were at the Lakeland operation when the blast occurred around 9:30 last night. 23 other employees suffered injuries ranging from smoke inhalation to severe burns. The four most critically injured have been flown to others hospitals, two to Vancouver General, one to Royal Jubilee in Victoria and the other to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. Six people remain in serious condition at UHNBC.
The Coroners Service, Worksafe BC, the Prince George Fire Department and the RCMP are all involved in the investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
This is the third explosion and fire at a sawmill in northern BC since the start of the year. Both the Babine Forest Products mill and the Decker Lake sawmill near Burns Lake were hit by fires earlier this year. Two workers died at Babine Forest Products and several more were injured.
Labour Minister Margaret MacDiarmid says all B.C. sawmills have been ordered to undergo inspection for unsafe dust levels in the wake of the Lakeland and Babine explosions.
In February of this year, the Prince George Fire Department was called to extinguish a small fire at the Lakeland mills in the sawdust collection area.

My condolences to his family, friend and coworkers.
This is so sad. I didn’t know him well, but he was a good, decent guy and I know that his family will miss him a lot. All day i was hoping it wasn’t him…

A true tragedy…no one should not come home from work. Love, strength to his loved ones. Words cannot say enough.
