Home Show Kicks Off Today at Kin Centres

Prince George, B.C. – The 35th annual Canadian Home Builders’ 2012 Home Show and Energy Fair opens today, running through Sunday at the Kin Centres.

 

The doors at Kin I, II and III will be open from 3 to 9pm today, 10 am to 8 pm Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm Sunday. 

 

Green products and energy efficiency are the focus of this year’s home show. Allan Creuzot, past president of the Canadian Home Builders Association, says massive changes are on the way for building codes both provincially and nationally, and one of the biggest changes is the addition of an energy component.  A multitude of products for “greening” your home and the various ramifications of the energy factor, including costs, will be on display at the show.
 
Kin I is dedicated to the Energy Fair but there are plenty of other aspects to the event in Kins II and III.  Tropical Pool and Spa will be on hand with the latest in their field of expertise, Cyle North will have a big booth with lots of motorcycles and other toys, and there will be many other booths displaying all sorts of things you might be interested in for your home.

 

Admission is $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors and students, and children under 12 get in free if accompanied by an adult.

I refuse to go because I don’t think I should have to pay money at the door to have vendor’s trying to sell me something.
I know others that think the same thing.

I certainly think the same way.

The other way to think about it, though, is to look at it as a service to give people a one-stop information gathering opportunity rather than to have to go to all the various locations in town.

Let’s face it, the real reason you probably refuse to go is because you do not need the service …….

I do not need the service either. If I did, I would probably go in order to save some time.

I agree with pansy. Although I am interested in seeing what is on offer, it is an affront to me for them to expect payment up front for the ‘privilege’ of a vendors pitch.
Gus, you make a valid point, I would counter that some, like myself, might not be sure of what we are looking for (example: should I spend money on a geothermal system with domestic water heat capability, or would I be better off going to a high efficiency furnace and demand water heater?) Do I need an energy recovery ventilator, l.e.d. lighting, better windows???? Getting all the vendors together in one venue for a few days is a great idea, but the production should not be underwritten by the consumer, it is an advertising and promotional expense for the vendors involved.

I too found the $8 price tag offensive. I believe most all this information can be readily found online from the comfort of your own home. Assuming that you have internet and then it’s just a sunk cost to you anyway.

Milling crowds of idiots with nothing better to do. Pass.

Not a chance I’m paying $8 for sales pitches. Don’t forget to enter all the ‘free’ draws.

I agree with all above except weaksauce. If I didn’t have to pay to get in I would be a milling idiot.. The vendors should cover this not the public

Kind of like having to pay to get into a car dealer’s lot, exploring the new automobile features, picking up brochures, and chatting with the sales person.

Are you really going to get any technical at the home show. Probably not. Much better to investigate for information on the internet. At least the pros and cons of the product can be found online while at a home show you will only hear the pros.

Actually good mention of the car dealers, Resident. They have their show once a year with several vendors in one place and no charge I believe. Never went to one, so am not sure.

With what they charge vendors there should be no need to charge patrons.

Was just at the homeshow. $24. Not much of interest for us.
