Council Starts Session with Moment of Silence for Lakeland

Prince George, B.C.- Mayor Shari Green started this evening’s meeting of the Council with an official recognition of the tragedy which ripped through the community of Prince George last week when an explosion at Lakeland Mills claimed two lives, injured many workers, and leveled the mill.
Mayor Green called on the gallery and members of Council to rise, and bow their heads in a moment of silence.
When that moment was over, Councillor Frank Everitt spoke about the tremendous work that had been done by the first responders “Our community has done us proud “ said Everitt, “We are so thankful for the actions of the 1st responders” he praised all who responded to the tragic event last week, saying they handled themselves and the situation very well.
He advised Council there are still four people in hospital, one in Victoria, 2 in Vancouver and one in Prince George.
City Manager Derek Bates also offered praise to City employees from the fire fighters to the utilities crews who made sure there was an adequate water supply.
Everitt then commented that “This tragedy will affect different people in different ways at different times, so I urge everyone to keep an eye on their friends and colleagues to see if there are any signs they need help to deal with this tragic event.”
