Chamber Welcomes Updates to PST System

Tuesday, May 15, 2012 @ 11:05 AM

Prince George, B.C. – While members of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce  may have supported the HST, the Chamber is pleased the legislation introduced yesterday to return to the two tax system includes some improvements to the old PST system.

“Many of our long-time members are already feeling fatigue over another shift in taxation while many new businesses, that have only ever existed under the HST system, are quite apprehensive about what the changes back to a two-tax system means for them”, Chamber President Bill McGill states. He continues, “We are pleased to see consideration has been given to improving some antiquated and cumbersome parts of the old PST system.  Many of our members will be pleased with the commitment to delivering previous tax exemptions.”

Chamber CEO, Jennifer Brandle-McCall, notes, “One of the services we offer is to educate and inform Chamber members when new opportunities or changes occur.  Assisting businesses through the transition back to a PST/GST system is critical in helping our business community remain confident and economically viable, despite the real costs to businesses in returning to, what we’ve heard our members describe as, a systemically inefficient two-tax system.”

In a March 2011 Survey of Prince George Chamber members on the HST, more than 70 respondents pointed to overall support for the HST from the business perspective. When asked to rate, on a sliding scale, the statement, “The HST will have a positive effect on most British Columbia businesses”, 42% of the respondents selected “Most likely” while only 14% selected “Least Likely”.

“42% of the respondents selected “Most likely” while only 14% selected “Least Likely”.”

So the remaining 44% responded with what?

I love these biased survey reports. The Chamber is just one more body that is really good at that.

“The HST will have a positive effect on most British Columbia businesses”

1. yes

2. most likely

3. about equal

4. not likely

5. no ….

My question is this. Who gives a dam what this body of rich corporate pig supporters thinks? What ever they think is just detrimental to the MAJORITY of taxpayers here in BC. They want tax on food. They want tax on haircuts. They want YOU taxed for every single thing you do. So do what I have done for the last couple years now. BOYCOTT any business that supports this group. They are absolutely irrelavent IMHO.

What a bunch of crap. The main reasons why people wanted to abolish the HST was so that major purchases like cars, boats etc in the private sector would not be taxed at 12%. I would suspect it makes up the majority of tax brought in. So we are still getting screwed. OOOOOOO no hst on a haircut? wowwwwwwww….. big deal….No hst on a 2nd used car? YAY! Thanks alot falcon!

Imorge. You dont have a clue as to what this tax is all about.

Dont you understand what it means when they say that the HST was a $1.6 Billion dollar tax shift from business and corporations to consumers.

That means that consumers in BC under the HST pay an additional $1.6 billion a year in taxes, over and above what they used to pay. It was a tax set up for business and corporations and the consumer paid the taxes they used to pay so that the Government did not lose any revenue.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Seems to me John Winter President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce made the statement a few years ago.

**It will be a cold day in hell before the HST is recinded in BC**

Brrrrrr

When the PST GST comes back I’ll buy Mr Winter President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce a fur coat, how’s that chum? And yes I’ll be able to take my grandchildren out to the lake now that the tax man left me a pittence of my old age security pention which enables me to do this thanx.

They should have kept the HST and gotten rid of the carbon tax.

OMG drama queens… Palupo for one has already cut his HST costs down by a third since it was first discussed. The number started off at $3000 per year, then $2000 now in a post the other day it was $1200…

Mattyc, your a piece of work.

Palopoo I think I do: I can’t speak for everyone, but one of the main reasons why I hated the HST is because I cannot buy a used car privately without paying full taxes like at a dealership. I am not a person who can afford to go out and buy new all the time. Hunting for a good used car and getting a decent deal with only having to pay one tax in the past I was ok with…but not 12%. !!! I plan to send off the proverbial letter to my mla about that crap. Not that it will do any good.

So pile of poo, the HST has affected many people in many different ways – this is mine.

YA dow take your corporate greedy pigs with you and get outa BC. WE THE PEOPLE is fed up being screwed by your corporate pigs, Pay your share of the tax you greedy PIG.

Soon the HST WILL BE EXTINGUISHED AND THE LIE berals will be WIPED OUT. Then the BC Rail inquiry will begin. Under the great leadership of Adrian Dix. I can not wait.

mattyc, may I say without a doubt that “you sure have a way with words”. IMO

So mattyc tattles to the site administrators and says that people are calling him names, and yet he calls people names quite often in his posts. Hypocrite?

Chamber members pay taxes gomer. If I recall you drive to Alberta to shop. You my dear dork, are the tax evader. Your the greedy pig. You want it all and won’t pay your share. Greedy dipper. If I leave BC who will fund your welfare check?

Imorge. If you would take the time to look at all the tax you are paying because of the HST in addition to the tax on used cars you would see you are being scammed.

As a matter of interest I dont agree with the increased tax on used vehicles. In fact the Government stated that this tax was needed so that private sales were on a level playing field with used car lots.

The problem with that excuse, is that a private auto sale has nothing to do with used car lots. This was just one more Liberal scam.

Interceptor. For some people $3000.00 is still valid, so is $2000.00 and so is $1200.00 It all depends on how much money you spend and what you spend it on.

As an example in restaurant costs I would pay approx $300.00 per year. I just paid my golf dues for 2012 and the HST was $120.00. If you actually tracked all your costs for a year, you might be surprised as to how much you actually spend on HST. $60.00 on a season ticket to the Cougars, as an example.$180.00 for a plot at the local cemetary, $360 if you buy two. You get my drift.

The simple fact is, if the Government and business did not make big money on this tax, then they would not have bothered to bring it in.
