Prince George, B.C.- The final numbers are in for the CNC Lakeland Mill FIre Assistance fundraiser.
More than $33,000 was raised during the three hour event which was attended by about 1,750 people.
“The support from the community was absolutely excellent. Prince George businesses and residents really stepped up to help each other and that’s what makes this community so special,” said Randall Heidt, CNC’s Director of Communications and Development. “We are thrilled with the amount of funds raised for Lakeland employees and honoured that we could help support them in some small way.”
Once all the funds from the silent auction are collected, proceeds will be donated to the Lakeland Mill Fire Assistance Fund administered by the Prince George Community Foundation.
“The Foundation has a long standing relationship with CNC. It is overwhelming to see the effort put forward by the students and faculty in support of the Lakeland Fire Assistance Fund and we are so very pleased to accept the funds for this purpose,” said Judy Neiser, Executive Director of the Prince George Community Foundation. “It truly shows great people doing wonderful things in our community.”
Food ticket sales from the barbecue tallied $11,404, silent auction $13,015 and raffle tickets $2,137. Donations from other supporters such as the Prince George Public Library and Prince George and District Arts Council and Caribou Chrome, among others, tallied $4,836.
CNC’s Professional Cook students donated $2,000, which was money they earned from tips collected over the past year.
Many local companies donated food, including Save-On Foods and Costco, while PWTransit provided a free shuttle between Pine Centre Mall and CNC’s campus as well as a travel package worth $3,000.
“We’d like to thank everyone for supporting this event – from businesses to community members,” Heidt said. “We’re encouraging those who purchased silent auction items to stop by and pay for them as soon as possible so we can give the funds to the Prince George Community Foundation.”

Awesome support. Its too bad had too miss it due to having to work last minuts.
The best part is that this started out as an idea of a few of the professional cooking students because one of the students had family affected by the explosion. They went to CNCs event co ordinate with the idea and it just snowballed from there.
What a heart PG has.
So just how is this money going to be distributed? I would like to see plans for this money? Hey my son worked there and we are all curious.
You would be best to speak to the trustee of the fund. CNC is not distributing funds directly but will be adding to the existing fund.
Dont quote me on this, just going by memory, but I believe 1st and foremost the funds will go towards helping the families of victims who are still in hospital. The cost of traveling, living quarters and loss of income to be near the injured family member can be a serious hardship.
WE are a strong caring community, we prove it every single day. I am proud to say, I am from Prince George.
