Museum Opens Biome

Prince George, BC- There is a new exhibit space the Fraser Fort George Regional Museum and getting into the space called the “Biome”, is half the fun.
You enter the Biome by walking across a back-lit floor that reacts to each step. Untouched, the panel may have the appearance of an expanse of desert, but with each step taken, the sand “blows away" to reveal dinosaur bones. Another image starts with “bugs” and as you step on the panel, the bugs approach your feet, If a second person steps on the panel, the group of bugs “splits” and part of the group will pursue the new “presence”. The entrance feature is so engaging, there may be a challenge to get visitors to move off the panel and into the Biome space.
Once inside the space, visitors will see a display of wildlife , both live and mounted. There is a snake, lizards, and a tarantula, all in glass encased habitats that are at perfect eye level for little people.
The development of the Biome has been in the works since last September, and was developed at a cost of about $30 thousand dollars.
The creation of this space will not only provide a new area for examination of wildlife, but, it frees up space on the second floor which can be used for displays of other exhibits borrowed from other museums.

This will be great fun for children. The only comment I have is where do they come up with the title “Biome” Stupid word. Why don’t they just call it an eco system and be done with it.
Guess somebody’s gotta dream up new words to make things sound special LOL.
Hi Slim. the word “biome” was my idea, but I certainly didn’t make it up. A biome is “a major regional group of distinctive plant and animal communities best adapted to the region’s physical natural environment.” For more information: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biome
If you’d like to stop by sometime, I’d be happy to give you a tour and let you see firsthand how the gallery suits its name.
cheers!

so in other words…local flora and fauna.
Lmao @ Slim. That one had to hurt. Kudos to Amanda for the return fire. You just made my day. Cheers.
Ha ha ha. Best comment ever! Nice work Amanda.
pwnd!
The word biome is likely relatively correct in the case of the local museum .
I do, however, support Slim2229 in that the word ecosystem is more descriptive and all inclusive since an ecosystem is characterized by both abiotic and biotic factors.
Biomes therefore have to be defined in a relationship to a distinct geoclimatic region in order to gain a full understanding of their characteristics. A simple example is that terrestial biomes and aquatic biomes are quite different.
One biome classification map of the world. http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/images/world_biomes_map.gif
I would hope that the museum keeps the flora and fauna together that belong in the same biome and do not mix them up.
I am looking at the tarantula specificlly and thinking that would not fit into a local biome display, other than an Anthropogenic biome.
Perhaps the museum has more than one biome or will get more than one so that the notion of a biome is clearly presented.
WHATEVER!
Gus, you said Biume one too many times, dang people gotta just dig up way too many new wirds, LMAO
And Burger, learn how to spell “Lover”!
This was a funny and yes, Amanda, I will come by and see it, sounds interesting.
