Pine Centre Mall Zellers on Target’s Initial List

Prince George, B.C.- Target has confirmed the Zellers store in the Pine Centre Mall is one of 18 stores in B.C. that will be converted to a Target in the first round of renovations of Zellers stores, and will be opening next March or April.
It has been a year since Target acquired 220 Zellers stores in Canada, to day they released the list of the 110 stores which will undergo renovations and reopen as a Target. When Opinion 250 first brought this story to you in May of last year , Target reps indicated the renovation to each location would cost about $10 million dollars, and would take 6 – 9 months.
The date for the closure of the Zellers at Pine Centre Mall has not yet been disclosed.
The store is expected to employ 150 to 200 people when it reopens, which is an increase in the payroll. Target says on average, staff requirements will increase about 34% because they expect to be doing a higher volume of sales and that it will "engage with Zellers associates to make it easy for them to apply for jobs at Target". The hiring process will start in 2012.
Target is the second largest retailer in the United States, with 1,755 stores in 49 States.
Target paid $1.825 billion dollars to take over up to 220 Zellers locations from the Hudson’s Bay Company.
The company now plans to open 18 Targets in B.C., 15 in Alberta, 3 in Saskatchewan, 4 in Manitoba, 49 in Ontario, 18 in Quebec, and one in each of Newfoundland , New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Additional stores will be added to the list later this year.

Not really familiar with the Target brand. Is it on par with Wal-mart or more towards the Bay?

Sounds like they are on target for now.
Betcha they won’t be bringing American prices along with them. We are Canadians. What need do we have for cheaper goods?
Canadian Target in Pr. Geo. it’ll be the most expensive cheap product store around.

I love target! One of my favorite stores! If only it was a super target we would be set. The quality of the goods is above target and have brands designed by famous designers for a cheaper price! If any one who isn’t familiar with targets brand, it’s like an upscale Walmart. Better quality and good value.
Much better quality than Walmart. A lot of the same brands we already see at Zellers as well as a lot of other brands. A lot of high end designers like Mizrahi and Missoni to name two, will design a limited line for Target. You can also did Converse Chuck Taylor shoes at Target. Any time info stateside I hit Target. The prices are similar to what we pay at Zellers and I imagine it will be the same. I picked up a bunch of “basics” for my daughter or summer (cheer shorts and leggings to go under skirts and dresses) and the prices were the same as what I would have paid at Zellers but a way wider selection.
Zellers is/was a dump and a very tired old store. Target will be better.
I like Zellers as it was. It has character. I liked Woodwards as well… another relic of a past time.
I like Northern Hardware the way it was and is …. well, not really the outside, but the inside …. It has character.
