City Moves Into Flood Watch Mode

Prince George, B.C.- With the warmer temperatures and the higher than normal snowpack, the City of Prince George has activated it’s Emergency Operations Centre to level one. That is the lowest level possible but starts the wheels in motion to monitor flood risk.
This week, PG Fire Rescue will be notifying property owners and residents who may be affected. The degree and severity of flood risk is contingent on snow melt conditions, temperature and rain events through this week and into June.
Preparations are underway to further respond should flooding occur.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

The deciding factor is the weather, not the snow pack. If we get warm nights and rain, it will flood. The amount or level will depend upon the amount of rain and the temperature at that time.
With monitoring stations upstream on each river, we have at least a days notice.
