Prince George, BC –  Highway 97 north of Clinton was closed for a time this afternoon, after a transport truck caught fire at a pull-out.

DriveBC reports the route was closed 20-kilometres north of Clinton just before 3pm this afternoon.

Vice-President of the Prince George Cougars, Brandi Brodsky, was one of the motorists held up by the closure.  She tells 250News that no one was hurt in the incident, but the route was closed to allow the semi’s fuel tank to explode.

When the fuel tanks blow you don’t want to be within 200 feet of the truck at least.

I seen a fuel tank blow first hand once. On the freeway from Tampa Bay to Orlando in bumper to bumper traffic and a rig in front of us caught fire, but traffic was so fast and pushing hard so it was safest to try and get around the truck rather than stop in a pileup… we did up all the windows and went down into the median speeding as fast as we could to clear the truck. The truck then exploded right behind us only a few seconds and the flames shot out both sides of the truck at least 200 feet fully enveloping a number of cars doing as we had just done. Luckily no one was hurt or injured, but can never forget the huge fireball it generated. Apparently that’s par for the course down on the American freeways though.

Was this Clinton truk struck by lightening?. There has been some around lately.
