Arrests Made to End McLeod Lake Protest
Prince George, B.C. – The blockade at the McLeod Lake Indian Band Office has come to an end with the arrest of 5 protestors.
This morning, RCMP members from Mackenzie , Chetwynd and Prince George attended the McLeod Lake Indian Band Office located at 61 Sekani Drive and the McLeod Lake Forestry Building located at 62 Sekani Drive which had been the site of a week long protest.
The RCMP had been called upon to enforce the injunction issued B.C. Supreme Court ordering an end to the protest which started on May 24th. By the end of that same day, the Band had been granted an injunction to end the protest which was preventing members of the Band Council from entering the Band Office. But the protestors stayed.
At issue is the revenue sharing deal signed by the Band Council with Terrane Metals. Under the agreement, the McLeod Lake Band would get a share of revenue from the Mount Milligan Mine. The protestors say the Band Council has signed those agreements without seeking ratification from Band Members.
Police arrested 4 protestors in relation to a Supreme Court Arrest Warrant and one protestor for disobeying the Supreme Court Civil Injunction Order. Police say the arrests were made without incident.
Those arrested were transported to the Prince George Law Courts where they will appear before a Supreme Court Justice to speak to these matters.
In addition, 3 community Elders and 2 other protestors, who were also under a Supreme Court Warrant, turned themselves over to the Prince George Supreme Court to answer to their involvement with the blockade.

Better treaty them nice or you will see another blockade!
They are just whining cause they felt they didn’t get a big enough cut of the pie…typical of the indians
Dearth@I don’t know the rights and wrongs in this situation, but wanting a fair share of the pie is hardly limited to Indians. If Indians seem to worry about it more, its probably because they generally get such small pies and such small shares.
This is nothing but sour grapes! The revenue share agreement was signed a year prior to the last election. The leaders of this blockade were soundly beat in the election and just can’t let it go.
The Government will look after it for them that is what the Casinos are for. They give them the money and take it all back at the Casino and Liquor stores. Go to any Casino in BC on welfare day and see if you can win anything.
I thought there was a misprint when I read about the $309,000 per month honorarium to the band council. Nope, that’s the vig they are taking, and tax free too. Our Denali dealer must love this and the Thompson Creek guys gotta be scratching their heads. Typical first nations band councils looting the till.
$309,000 a year, for 7 people! I know the facts here. They are hardly overpaid, do the math
Okay…. it averages out to 14,000 a year more than a city councilor makes. 500 members, 100 live on the res….whatever…
They actually get something done!As apposed to our city councilors
Well….they both seem to run their finances by a ouiji board.
