RDFFG Activates Emergency Operations Centre

Tuesday, June 5, 2012 @ 3:28 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has  activated it’s Emergency Operations Centre at level one.

The activation is a result of the heavy  rainfall  event which is likely to  push  the  rivers to  near flood or flood status.

The Regional District will be monitoring many areas around the region that have historically been affected by high river levels.  Areas such as the Upper Fraser, Foreman Flats, Shelley and around McBride are among the locations being watched carefully.

Residents in those areas are advised to contact the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George at 1-800-667-1959 in the event that their home is threatened by flooding, or after hours at 250-960-4475.

There are no evacuation alerts in effect at this time. The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George continues to monitor the situation closely.

The Regional District reminds the public  to exercise extreme caution near rivers and streams.  High water-flows can cause bank erosion and instability, and currents in the river can be volatile and unpredictable. Please avoid all streams and water bodies with rising levels.

For more information on emergency preparedness, including how to prepare a 72 hour emergency kit, visit the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George website at www.rdffg.bc.ca or call 1-800-667-1959
