Mexico… it would be nice to go somewhere other than Mexico. Maybe Hawaii, Florida, or the Philippines.

Didn’t they make a movie down there called ‘Headless in Baja…

There ya go! Let’s better use of that runway with a direct flight to Hawaii. It could start in Edmonton and stop here.

Don’t like it? Then don’t go. They fly to Mexico because it’s popular & therefore economically viable.

It would be nice to see a direct flight to Cancun Puerto Vallarta is getting stale.

weaksauce: “Don’t like it? Then don’t go. They fly to Mexico because it’s popular & therefore economically viable.”

Exactly.

With all the criminal activity in Mexico right now, who in their right bloody minds would want to go down there? If you do, you might as well wear a big target on your back!

Uturn: “With all the criminal activity in Mexico right now, who in their right bloody minds would want to go down there?”

Yes, why would you go down there for the criminal activity when we have our own right here. Hiding under the blankets and never leaving the house is the best solution.

How about a direct flight to Edmonton, or Calgary.

Uturn – I just got back from ten days in Mexico, PV and Cabo. Went hiking, geocaching, shopping – never once felt or saw anything dangerous. And yes, we had the kids with us.

Interceptor some feel gooders might think that child endangerment.

Wonder how the direct flight to Frankfurt or Munich is doing.

We need to support incoming tourist money, not outgoing tourist money. How many Mexicans on those flights? We can offer wonderful winterland experiences with heli-skiing, etc.

LOL – good point seamutt. Dont tell anybody about the Disney cruise ship that pulled in while we were there and released several thousand kids to thier doom!

lulz!

@Uturn. Who would come to PG, The Crime Capital of Canada!

Most of the folks who post on this site are too old for the cartels to pay any attention as to why they would be in Mexico. As for the ones who run the risk of ending up dead, they may look the part of some gangster or Hells Angel member and therefore draw the attention of the locals in Mexico.

We take our kids to PV every year and don’t take any special precautions other than the ones we normally take at home.

Not going to Mexico because of all of the drug cartels in border cities (which is where the significant majority of the problems are) is like not going to Edmonton because of gang crime in Vancouver. Sounds pretty ridiculous doesn’t it.

You are at no greater risk of a random attack in Mexico than you are here in PG. I was standing in line at the Telus store once and heard a group of people discussing how unsafe Mexico is.

Person #1: oh yeah, my brother and his wife just got back from Mexico. They are crazy I can’t believe they went.

Person #2: yeah we’ve never been it is just too dangerous. Our nephew was there last year and got mugged. He and his buddies were walki g down this back alley at about 2am on their way home from a bar and this really nice car stopped and the guy in it asked my nephew a question and when he went over to the car the guys got out and mugged him. Took all his money. So scary. Mexico is so dangerous we would never go there.

Person #1: oh that’s terrible. You hear of that stuf happening all the time now.

Person #2: oh I know. Thy couldn’t believe what happened. The guys were driving a nice car so they thought they were nice guys.

I stood there looking for a stupid sign to hand them. Sadly I didn’t have it with me. They failed to see that the kid didn’t get mugged because he was in Mexico, he got mugged because he was an idiot.

We go in December. We go downtown with our kids at night during our lady of Guadeloupe week celebrations. There are thousands of people downtown every night that week. We dont do anything in Mexico that we wouldn’t do at home. I mean, I wouldn’t approach a car at 2am in a dark alley in PG so why would anyone think it is safe to do so in Mexico. Or anywhere?

Nice to see some common sense posts on here. I was in Mexico recently and found the locals to be some of the most friendly and welcoming people I have ever met. The people on the resort we stayed at had much more attitude, but to be fair, they were mostly Canadians and Americans who didn’t want to leave the confines of the pool to experience the Mexico where Mexican people actually live, LOL.

How about a direct flight to California?
Long Beach Intl airport would be ideal….
I think this would be a viable route for Westjet for Disneyland and connections to other world destinations.
Start in Edmonton or Calgary, or both, last stop in PG, then south to LB CA
