Vanderhoof, BC – Recess just got better for students at WL McLeod Elementary School in Vanderhoof.

As part of the provincial government’s final phase of funding to repair and replace aging playground equipment, WL McLeod has received $50-thousand dollars towards improving the school’s playground.

“To be perfectly honest, some of the fondest memories one has of their years in elementary school are not from the classroom but the playground. Playgrounds are important for every school and every child,” said Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad in presenting the cheque to beaming students and teachers at the school.

This is the final phase of an $8-million dollar commitment made by the Premier last September for elementary and middle schools.

Under the first phase, $2-million went to 23 school districts for new equipment at 41 priority schools.  The second phase saw 106 Parent Advisory Councils in 34 districts reimbursed $2.4-million for new playground equipment the PACs had purchased.
