Fort St. John, B.C.- The move is on. The old Fort St. John Hospital is now officially closed, and patients are being moved to the new, Fort St. John Hospital and Residential Care facility at 8407 – 112th Avenue.

While the new hospital is officially open today, people are being asked to only go to the new facility today if it is an emergency. The focus today is getting all the patients from the old facility moved into the new one.

At 8:04 this morning, the first patient from the old facility  arrived at the new hospital, the first of a parade of arrivals every 5 minutes or so.

There are no outpatient services available today and lab and medical imaging services  will only be available in the event of an emergency.

Visiting hours have been shortened today, to 2 this afternoon to 8 tonight, but regular visiting hours will be back to the normal noon to 8 p.m. schedule tomorrow.

The old hospital, which was built in 1962,  was officially closed at 6 this morning, ending 5 decades of service.

Comments

Each new or improved northern hospital come with an complimentary Northern Health bus and driver to take the patients to the doctors down south ( really south is what I mean) because they don’t have the doctors needed?
