Prince George, B.C.  –  A   64 year old man remains in critical but stable condition following a   motorcycle crash near Dome Creek yesterday. (see previous story)

The U.S. native, was on a motorcycle ride to raise awareness about diabetes, and had a 4 person support crew following.

Witnesses say the Honda Goldwing’s back end swung to the right, and then the motorcycle headed off into the ditch.

RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson of North District Traffic Services  says a collision reconstructionist has not been able to identify any physical evidence that would explain why the motorcycle went off the highway. “There were no pot holes, no cracks in the roadway, so it’s not a road maintenance issue” says Cpl Saunderson.

The motorcycle is being checked for possible mechanical problems, but the crew travelling with the rider,  checked the bike daily for possible mechanical issues.

The rider was on his way to Alaska, and had planned on going east to Alberta, then north, but the closure of highway 16 yesterday made the team turn around and head back to Prince George with the plan to reach Dawson Creek by days end. Instead, the crash near Dome Creek resulted in the driver being rushed to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. where he underwent emergency surgery and is now in the intensive care unit.
