Prince George, B.C. – Members of CUPE local 3799 at the University of Northern B.C. will be casting ballots today and tomorrow in a strike vote to back their contract demands.
Local 3799 represents support staff at UNBC.
Yesterday, CUPE workers at the University of Victoria served 72 hour strike notice and early last week, the CUPE workers at UBC returned to the bargaining table with their employer and a mediator.

Softest jobs on the planet, good money, great security and benefits, but demanding ever more.

Can you back that up with some actual numbers or proof thereof ? Possibly a comparison of the people taking the strike vote to the professors or the senior management ?
@metalman
“great security and benefits” – and that is exaclty what we are trying to keep. If you were apprised of the situation then you would be aware of that. Have you ever worked at an educational institution? No, then you are just displaying your complete ignorance.
SIGH…
Okay BlueCollarWorker, tell us how hard it is to work in an educational institution.
Gee whiz! Is that why I always ask, “How come every one elses job looks easier”?
Lunarguy, why do you think it would it be appropriate to compare support staff wage packages to professors or senior management?
So, BlueCollarWorker, lay it out for us. How bad is it?
I had a sneaking suspicion my off the cuff remarks would draw some return fire.
To paraphrase Harbinger, sometimes other peoples’ jobs do look easier, but you never really know that, unless you have worked at that job, and for the same employer. From my perspective, c.u.p.e. jobs at u.n.b.c. look pretty good.
Not affected by weather, not seasonal, not dangerous or unhealthy, fair wages, and job security. Sounds good to me.
I’m probably just a little jealous.

And not owned by Pattison.
