The eleven plus acre property, (in photo at right) which includes a former restaurant, cabins and RV sites, will be turned into a summer camp for children.
Local businessman, Jordy Hoover is purchasing the property with the intent of turning it over to the YMCA for use as a camp for kids.
The purchase has not come without some bumps on the road says Hoover. He says he walked away from the deal once already when he learned the site had been booked for weddings that were scheduled to take place after the closing date. Hoover says he had made it clear, and part of the offer to purchase, that the site be free of any planned events when the deal closed.
Hoover says the mortgage holder came back to him to work out a second deal on the property, and he has since been assured the wedding parties have been refunded their deposits.
Hoover says he hopes the summer camp will be able to provide a summer camp experience for up to 500 children a year.
Sold at auction in July of 2007, the property owner had hoped to change it into a strata recreational vehicle campsite. That proposal would have the property divided into lots for year round rental, but neighbours opposed the plan and the property owner withdrew the proposal saying he could not proceed without the support of the neighbours.
Then, another couple got involved with the property and marketed it as a place for business retreats, or special events.
The sale of the property is expected to close within the next few days.

Wow!!!!! Such a wonderful location so close to town and such a class restaurant at one time.
Totally underutilized as a children’s camp for a time of year that does not happen that often anymore … summer you say?
Hopefully the Y can add some programs for the full year, especially winter as well for day use.
I think this points to exactly the type of challenges we have with attracting tourists to this community.
Great idea!
I don’t see why the Y couldn’t have programmes throughout the year with a property like this. They have the lake there for ice fishing, skating, cross country skiing, maybe curling and hockey, skidooing, snowshoeing, snowball fights, you name it!
I personally know of 1 wedding booked for September there that HAS NOT RECEIVED THEIR $1000 deposit back.
Opinion 250 better check your facts and check with Hoover because if there is 1 who did not receive their deposit back there may be more owed money:(
Marcy,
maybe the closing date is after the September wedding you know of?
“The sale of the property is expected to close within the next few days.”
Marcy,
We were given a list of weddings that were booked for any date after the closing date. All of the people on our list were contacted by the previous owners and refunded their deposits. We are not aware of a wedding booked for September. Please ask them to contact the previous owner if they have a booking and have paid a deposit that we are not aware of.
I love the concept of a childrens resource but my question is: This place must be worth millions? How can a few childrens outings and events support the purchase price and maintenance costs to sustain it as a viable childrens resource alone? Cudoes to you Mr. Hoover! Say are you the same guy who contracts the group homes to the CLBC or MCFD? None of my business but my point is that if the cost is not recoverable easily, then this demonstrates the altruistic level of Mr. Hoovers generosity. Thank You Sir, on behalf of PG kids!!!
I would and always will give cu-does to Mr. Jordy Hoover as he is a HUGE supporter of our Army cadet corps here in PG :)
And I have been speaking to the person in question and he HAS NOT been contacted or gotten his $1000 back:(
