Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Farmer’s Market is one of five Farmers’ Markets in the Northern Health region taking part in a nutrition and coupon program.
The program offers low income families and seniors weekly coupons which are then treated as cash to buy a variety of B.C. food products from a Farmers’ Market.
Each participating Farmers Market is linked with one or more community agencies that operate a cooking and skill building program.
Other communities within the Northern Health region taking part in the program are:
- Quesnel Farmers’ Market working with the Quesnel Child, Youth and Family Network
- Bulkley Valley Farmers Market working with the Northern Society for Domestic Peace-Smithers Pregnancy Outreach program
- Hazelton Community Market working with the Storytellers Foundation
- Pleasant Valley Community Market working with Houston Link to Learning
The program will support up to 50 families and up to 10 seniors per community with the intent to expand the program to assist more people every year.
