Enbridge to Establish P.G. Office
Thursday, July 5, 2012 @ 2:57 PM
Prince George, B.C.- Enbridge is establishing an office in Prince George.
That news was delivered today by Janet Holder, Executive Vice President Western Access of Enbridge Inc, to those who attended a special Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Prince George.
Holder told the gathering the office will “serve as our base of operations" not just for the proposed Northern Gateway twin pipeline project, but also for the company’s growing involvement in energy development across northern BC. "Enbridge is in Prince George to stay. We recognize that this city is strategically positioned to be the centre of our operations in this region for years to come.”
She referred to Enbridge as a Canadian success story, and a company “you can trust”. She told those in attendance the Northern Gateway project has held more consultations and met with more people than is required by the regulator, and that the project, ( if approved) would bring significant benefits to the region “In Northern BC, for example, Northern Gateway would provide:
o 3 years of construction – with 3,000-4,000 people employed at any one time.
o Local goods and services spending estimated at $318 million for the Coastal Region, $400 million for the Prince George region, and $112 million for Northeast BC.
o And once Northern Gateway is built – it will support at least 560 permanent, long-term jobs, and $1.2 billion in provincial tax revenues.”
Speaking of the recent oil spills could not be avoided, and Holder talked of how Enbridge plans to invest more than $4 billion dollars over the next five years for pipeline safety and integrity. She says the Northern Gateway project will be “the most advanced pipeline system ever built.”
Holder also noted that Enbridge will be establishing the Northern Gateway Community Investment Fund and will contribute one per cent of annual pre-tax earnings to the Fund. “It is anticipated the trust will generate $100 million over 30 years, to help fund initiatives in both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities – the things communities themselves decide are important.”
Her speech was delivered just days before the Joint Review Panel returns to Prince George for two days of community hearings on the proposed twin pipeline.
The community hearings are set for the 9th and 10th of July and will take place at the Prince George Civic Centre. On the 9th, there is an afternoon session that will get underway at 1:00, and an evening session at 7:00. Then on the 10th, there will be a morning session at 9:00, and an afternoon session set to start at 1:00.

“She referred to Enbridge as a Canadian success story, and a company âyou can trustâ.”
That’s why the US Government is going to slap them with a 3.7 million dollar US fine for the Kalamazoo fiasco.
Disorganised control room and bullying of junior staff to blame.

Just the kind of trust we need. Go away Enbridge!
Welcome Enbridge!
Great now all the naysayers will have a home base to protest or picket. Maybe they will get off of their plastic Chinese built computers and quick belly aching on here. On a side note, if there is a protest I suggest the RCMP keep the drug sniffing dogs nearby…
Welcome to PG Enbridge!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but …
Doesn’t the proposed pipeline cross the Stuart River near Fort St James?
AND
Doesn’t the City of PG get most of it’s water from the Nechako watershed (via aquifiers that source the Nechako)?
I wonder how many people from PG can make the connection of these two tidbits in case of an oil spill (like Enbridge had in Michigan)?
Re: “She says the Northern Gateway project will be âthe most advanced pipeline system ever built.â Well, I sure hope they would build it to the latest technological standards! I’d be a little ticked if they built it to the code from 30 years ago.
Enbridge can tout this gateway project all they want, it simply will not be built…their consultation process with FNs is and will remain atrocious…this gateway pipe dream will end up in court for years to come…to engage or entice FNs now would be insulting, Enbridge should have done that at the concept stage of this pipe dream…too little, too late…as for alternative energy projects? It may be time for Enbridge to come clean about that because, if there is any hope for this company in BC, it is that route and that route only…what is enbridge’s version of alternative energy in BC? Let’s hear it…as for comments about “what you think you are using to post your comment and all that kind of talk…” well, there’s various ways of generating revenue with oil…refining it in the already existing refining infrastructure of Alberta and Ontario, that are now closed…or have been for sometime…update these facilities to meet our own demand for gas and oil products for ourselves, any by-products, put out on the market for additional revenue…if this country doesn’t do that, we will be at the mercy of China and other countries, at our own peril, those other countries do not and will not have our long term interests at heart…they are locusts, plain and simple…China and others will not touch their own resources until they exhaust other countries first…
^ que the random psycho-babble from the eco-terrorists. You belong in jail.
Hmmm, kinsley, Green and Rogers were seen having lunch together recently. Whats shakin?
“The evidence includes testimony from a senior Enbridge employee who suggests the energy company, now promoting new projects in Canada such as the multibillion dollar Northern Gateway pipeline from Edmonton to the British Columbia coast, is years away from achieving “world-class” safety standards.”
So they admit their safety isn’t up to where it should be. Kind of goes against what Ms. Holder has to say.
Wolf in Sheeps clothing, don’t fall for their B.S.
Dragonmaster :
Kinsley, Rodgers and Green were seen having lunch together ?
Oh please……give us more….please…
please…
Even if you ignore all the environmental problems Northern gateway will inevitably cause (and really it is only a matter of time before a pipeline spills) every red blooded BC native should oppose this project for the financial rip off it presents to BC. BC natural gas is sold to the Bitumen Sands at rock bottom prices (presently less than 20% of world price) to produce oil. We then allow Alberta interests to build a pipeline through BC, at great risk to us, for no appreciable gain. Alberta gets maybe 20% premium for their oil. We are out 80%. Are we suckers or just Albertas’ bitch?
Nice to see that my rumour generator is still working ….. ;-)

Headline from almost 2 years ago.
$1.7 Billion and Rising: Taxpayers’ Gas Bill for Oil Sands
Interesting read. The things we really know nothing about ……. in itself totally frightening.
I think I first heard about this project in 2005. Here we are 7 years later and still talking. The naysayers sure know how to drag things out, I’ll give them that.
Johnnybelt- I’ll mark you down as a sucker.
This project is absolute insanity. I hope it never comes to fruition. To build a twin pipeline right along the continental divide is just about the stupidest thing I can think of doing and for what? So you can peddle some nasty bitumen to China and the Western United States.
I’ll tell you what Enbridge, you want to setup shop in PG, well, if the project goes through I’ll sell you my newly constructed home, because when you destroy the world class water that gets piped to my home (and you will), my house won’t be worth sfa after that.
The level of corruption within provincial politics has reached an unbearable level for me. Potentially the most important decision in this provinces environmental history and the BC Liberals are silent. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. I think it’s time to move away from here. I’m getting tired of swimming upstream all the time and if it’s starts oozing black sludge too, that will be more than I can take.
Can anyone imagine Harper making a demand on Enbridge to clean up an oil spill in the Prince George area??? I thought not. This cinerio coupled with the black tary mess that oil spills are would scar the countryside long into the future. Once the land is soiled I’m sure Enbridges attitude would be “Oh well” and keep pumping their money making oil and pay out Prince George along with anyone else that becomes affected by the spill
I get even more suspicious when any company promotes an obviously dangerous project with ads that are all in pastel colours of beautiful nature and tries to make it appear as if nature will actually be improved upon by a high pressure pipeline traversing rivers, streams, mountains and lakes – all the while prone to predictable failures due to earthquakes, mudslides, washouts, avalanches and forest fires.
The spill statistics are abysmal.
Could someone explain what these 560 jobs in B.C. will be? How many guys does it take to open and close a valve?
1.2 billion dollars over 30 years? Wow, are we supposed to be jumping up and down for 40 million a year?
Compare this to the Shell LNG plant, at 600 billion over 25 years, or 24 billion a year.
herbster: “Johnnybelt- I’ll mark you down as a sucker.”
Ok, I’ll mark you down as a sheep.
Sine Nomine what do you think of the pipeline just built through Jasper? Right beside the Fraser headwaters.
How does oil get to Vancouver now?
Myself I would rather not see the pipeline built but I won’t lose any sleep if it is built.
“Can anyone imagine Harper making ……”
I can’t imagine little Lord Fauntleroy being good at making anything …. ;-)
I used to support the Enbridge pipeline, but the more I learn about it, the less I like it, I have now swung over to the dark side.
My 2 biggest concerns, 1st the terrain it will pass through, very little access, therefor hard to get to in event of a mishap. The conditions are harsh, slides common place in the areas they propose. How many slides has PNG had to deal with?
2nd concern, supertanker traffic to Kitimat. Really, can that be a good idea? I have traveled those waters in much smaller boats and they are tight. I cant imagine a supertanker in there.
seamutt,
that project was built on a clause from a contract signed in the 1950’s. I highly doubt a new project would be put through there today.
When and where do we start making the picket signs? Count me as an “eco-terrorist”.
Anyone know what BS is?
@sardonic: sea2sands.ca (one of those radical eco-terrorist conservation groups) is organizing a rally on Monday July 9th. It starts at the courthouse at 5pm.
So, anyone who disagrees with the Gateway Pipeline is an “ecoterrorist”?
You have to be pretty damn stupid if you believe that.
There are reasons why people in the rest of BC think that Prince George is full of redneck morons.
That mindset is one of them.
Thanks for re-enforcing our reputation.
Oops, forgot the sarcasm tag…
I sure hope the new Enbridge office is gonna be opening on our own “Historic George Street”. That ought to “revitalize” downtown a bit. Protestors have to eat. Some protestors have money. All this activity downtown can’t hurt. Panhandlers and the like will get sympathy and some change from “eco-enthusiasts. Win, win for every one. A few 45 gallon drums of sand should, in my opinion, be stationed in front of the Enbridge office in case some overly enthusiastic opponent hopes to score points by having a “symbolic” oil spill out front. The empty building next to the Enbridge can be used for a Insite safe drug injection site. Things might be looking up for our “dead horse” called downtown.
