REAPS Encourages Kids To ‘Go For Green’

Prince George, BC –  It was a quiet afternoon in the Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society’s garden on Gorse Avenue yesterday afternoon, as just one youngster and her grandma came out to the ‘Go For Green’ activities.

But seven-year-old Jessica Miller and her grandma, Teresa Donald, were having a wonderful time making paper critters out of recycled goods and playing ‘buggy bingo’ through the garden beds.

REAPS spokesperson, Corey Walker, is hopeful this weekend’s sunshine will attract many more youngsters to the compost garden neighbouring Fort George Park, as the society wraps up ‘Go For Green’ week.

Today and tomorrow, youngsters and their parents are invited to make a craft between noon and 2pm, and scout the garden for various insects as part of ‘buggy bingo’ between 1pm and 3pm.

Walker says, "This is just an opportunity to teach kids more about the environment and encourage them to recycle, reuse, and just help them to become environmentally-conscious as they grow up."
