Prince George, BC – The BC River Forecast Centre is maintaining the Flood Watch Advisory issued last weekend for Stuart Lake and Stuart River and a High Streamflow Advisory is in place on the Nechako River.
The Forecast Centre says the Stuart River near Fort St. James is currently flowig at a 10- to 20-year high of 480m3/s, but has been stable for the last few days. The river and Stuart Lake are forecast to continue to rise for another one to three weeks – with a possible rise of between 7-15cm above the current level – depending on snowmelt and precipitation.
According to the Water Survey of Canada’s monitoring station at Vanderhoof, the flow rate on the Nechako River has eased somewhat over the weekend and is now just under 352m3/s.
The drier conditions across the province has resulted in a corresponding drop in river levels across most of the province. In the Southern Interior, a Flood Warning remains in place for Shuswap Lake, with Flood Watch advisories on the South Thompson River and Shuswap River at Mable Lake. The Thompson River through Kamloops has a High Streamflow Advisory in place.
