2015 Winter Games Hooks Up With Community Partner

Prince George, B.C. – This is a big milestone day for the host committee of the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
Director of Marketing and Communications for the Games, Mike Davis, says the committee is sitting down with its first major community partner for an official signing which delivers that sponsor’s contribution to the games. Now that information won’t be released publicly until next Wednesday, but Davis says today’s get together is all about the signing of a formal contract between Games officials and the community partner.
The Games committee is currently conducting its drive to sign up corporate sponsors for the 2015 event. Director of Revenue Generation, Todd Doherty, has set a goal of raising $15 million from the corporate world, which amounts to 40 percent of the funding required to operate the games.

Hey Mike. I know a secret. I’ll tell you next Friday.
I am with you middle finger ….. what is this all about? Are they trying to draw this out for longer than it it worth?
Enbridge, Telus, Fortis, Scotia Bank, …. who cares?
Whoever they are, those people who buy the service of that company are paying for their involvement ….. I think it is about time we call a spade a spade …. the Games are holding out their hand for money …. money that will be used for the games instead of somewhere such as facilities for special needs people, cancer, etc. ….. there is no extra money floating around that I am aware of …. unless the sponsoring companies are charging us too much money.
I don’t follow Gus – this is corporate sponsorship. Of course the games are looking for money, it has been part of the plan since it started. If a company wants to put their advertising budget here, what’s the problem? Sponsorship is all about returns. If a company feels that putting money into a facility for special needs people is what they want to do then more power to them. Its not like a company is going to say “instead of sponsering we are going to lower our prices”
It is a simple notion …. when it comes to the economy we are half of it and the businesses we buy from are the other half.
We are the clients. We decide which products and services to support as long as there is competition. In effect, we decide who survives and gets rich and sell us more stuff.
In addition, we have to remember that the less profit a company makes, the less taxes they pay. The less taxes they pay, the more the consumer pays. When the money goes to a charitable organization, the portion government ends up paying through loss of opportunity is even higher.
Remember, we are the only ones who give the corporations an income. Without us, they have none. We have a say, whether it is in how corporations spend money or how governments spend money.
It’ll be Enbridge…they need to buy themselves some public support.
You are probably right “Summit” – the squeaky wheel gets the grease…
I believe “Amer Sports Oyj” is the largest sports manufacturer in the world. They are based in Finland.
Atomic and Salomon are two of the products they manufacture.
I think it would be great if they were a key “partner” in the Canada Winter Games. Very appropriate.
The money they give would not likely be taken away from other philanthropic giving in the community.
If Enbridge is one of the key corporate partners to the 2015 Canada Winter Games this may deter people from wanting to volunteer. Don’t they need something like 5 to 6000 volunteers?
I wonder if Subaru Canada will be a sponsor here. They were in Halifax and Whitehorse.

The best way to get around in the snow …. if we have any .. ;-)
I’ll bet $1 that it’s Telus, and I’ll bet $1 that it’s not Research In Motion.
Maybe RIM will donate free Blackberries….
