AQ Advisory Lifted

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 @ 10:53 AM

Prince George, B.C.- The Air Quality Advisory  for Prince George has been lifted.  Air Pollution Meteorologist  with the Ministry of the Environment, Dennis Fudge says the  inversion  that was holding the  wildfire smoke in the region,  broke  earlier than  expected.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 23 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site, 21 µg/m3 at College Heights, 24 µg/m3 at Exploration Place and 27 µg/m3 at foreman Flats at 10 am today.

The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 37 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 32 µg/m3 at College Heights and 50 µg/m3 at BCR at 10 am today.

The  upper flow has become more westerly this morning resulting in the smoke being pushed southeastward. Even though the 24 hour particulate levels are near advisory level hourly values have dropped considerable in the past two hours.

The lifting of the advisory means the  free transit rides on P.G. Transit will come to an end at midnight tonight.
