Photo of Andrew SILLNew Hazelton, B.C.-  The  search for a missing film maker continues, as RCMP and Search and Rescue try to locate 26 year old Warren Andrew Sill of Ohio.

Sill  (in photo  at right,  photo courtesy RCMP) was in the Gull Creek area of New Hazleton B.C. filming a documentary on the Spirit Bears  that  are known to roam in that area.

A week ago,  RCMP  investigated a complaint about an abandoned vehicle parked at Gull Creek.  The investigation lead them to Sill’s family confirming he was in the area and had planned to stay for 4 to 5 days in order to get his footage.

The vehicle had been parked at the entrance of the Whiskey Creek Trail  since July 5th, and  all the camping equipment was still in it.  Sill’s sleeping bag, tent, and camp stove were all still in the  vehicle but all necessary if anyone is to  stay  in the  area for any length of time.

Sill is not  a seasoned  outdoorsman,  and Search and Rescue  was called in.

A command post has been  set up  in the parking lot and base of Whiskey Creek Trail. Search Teams have consisted of approximately 25 volunteers who have covered the area on ground and by air. Police are also working with a local resident of Kitwanga who knows the area very well.

Today police are using a number of resources including River boats as they are now focusing on the creek beds. Forest fire fighters have been flown into the higher regions and will be clear cutting a second base so the helicopter can land and bring further tools and supplies.

Warren ‘Andrew’ Sill has been missing for 12 days. He is described as;

  • 5’10"
  • 180 lbs.
  • Medium build
  • short dirty blond hair
  • Clean straight teeth

If anyone has information in regards to Warren Andrew Sill they are asked to contact the New Hazelton RCMP Detachment at (250) 842-5244 or call 911 for immediate assistance.

Hope they find him and he is ok.

Not a seasoned outdoorsman filming bears? American? Shouldn’t he be working with a guide?
