B.C. Wins Softwood Lumber Agreement Case

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 @ 11:53 AM

Prince George, B.C.- The Province of B.C. has won an arbitration case that centred on the province’s timber pricing policies  under the Softwood Lumber agreement.

The London Court of International Arbitration has ruled there was no contravention.

Last year, the U.S. alleged B.C. was selling softwood at less than market value given an increase in the harvest of low-grade timber. The increased amount of low-grade timber in B.C. is the result of the mountain pine beetle infestation.

Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation Pat Bell says the decision is a total victory for B.C. and Canada who says the U.S. complaints were “unwarranted and groundless.”

The decision by the London Court of International Arbitration is final and binding.

Sounds familiar … who else do we know who does that? ;-)

Excellent. This must also mean the USA will be paying all the legal costs!
