How seniors became the fastest growing group of debtors in B.C.
The fastest-growing segment of society going broke in Canada is people over the age of 55. They have acquired the nickname grandpa debtors

First of all came the caterpillars. My place was absolutely covered in them, and now there is a million if not billions of cocoons with moths just about to hatch.
Then now came the mosquitoes. I can barely go outside without a half a can of bug dope on.
We are now nearing the end of July and by now there shouldn`t be any moquitoes at all.
What`s up with that? When do we get to enjoy summer? In August maybe?
Lol, come stand beside me. Mosquitoes hate me, I haven’t had a skeeder bite since high school. Infact I don’t even see then around me whereas everyone beside me is getting bit like crazy. Sorry for your insect woes.
People may notice a large increase in motorcycles in town this weekend . The western HOG rally is being held here in Prince George . While it is so important to always look and drive with care and attention , please be a little extra aware this weekend . Be ambassadors for our city. We have guests from all over Weatern Canada and the Western USA visiting our city and bringing money to our businesses . We have too many injured riders in hospital right now . We do not need anymore . To all the visiting riders of HOG , welcome to Prince George , have a great and safe weekend .
Yep going to be a noisy weekend in PG with those noisy toys in town for the hog rally.
Next year we need to have a open header weekend for cars :)
I am extra aware of motorcycles for my own safety.Coming into P.G. from the west yesterday I was tail gated by a group of 6 harleys and watched them all make very unsafe passes as they roared in and out of traffic on the way to P.G.
Hey all you pedestrians…. I know you have the right of way to walk through an intersection on the green but when its busy and cars are backed up do you really have saunter across like your on a nature walk through the park.
Please take a moment of silence for all the victims of the Colorado shootings this morning.
Peace everyone…

Does anyone know if Boundary Road will be finished before the snow flies this year? I bet the businesses on Boeing Road are not real happy right about now. The road has been closed for about a month I think.
I see they’re reducing Winnipeg to 3 lanes to accommodate a handfull of cyclists for a couple of months a year.
Took out my hanky to wipe my tears but there is nothinh to cry about. Geuss all the whiners are still on vacation..
I cant go as I’m staying back to look after our City. Somone hast do it.
cheers
Don’t want to complain about the paving going on, but do they need to block lanes days in advance of any construction? The right lane from Domano to Ferry was blocked for days with no sign of any construction. It takes 10 minutes to put the pilons up, why not wait till construction is proceeding?
Its to support the illusion of progress. I am constanly seeing signs telling you to move right, move left, slow down, flagman ahead, etc with nothing happening. I will return hours later, the same signs are up and still nothing has happened. The signs will be gone the next day and as far as I can tell nothing was ever done. I think there is a scam going on where the contractors responsible for putting out the signs must get paid by the kilomter or something.
Just thought of something. A while back I was getting into my car at Sears and this guy rides up on a bicycle and asks me for twenty bucks “because his propane pick up is out at the BC Rail site and he needs the money to get his truck moved. A few weeks later this woman at Superstore greets me as I’m putting groceries in my car and tells me she has no money for gas to get home to Quesnel because she spent too much money for groceries”. I don’t know if they are still around working their magic on more gullible and altruistic fools, tourists and seniors. I gave them both the short shrift. Then I thought what to do if you come across these two again? Call the cops? Hold them physically til the cops come and then get charged wit assault? Win win for panhandlers. Grrrrr!
Offer the pan handlers some work to do for the money and see what they say. It will seperate the desparate from the useless.
Traffic control during all the re-paving in the city has been poorly executed, at least in some areas. Large illuminated signs advising drivers to choose an alternate route should:
A) be placed far enough from the work to provide one or more alternate routes well BEFORE encountering the work
B) NOT route drivers to another closed or controlled street also in the process of resurfacing or other construction.
A related topic: When a ‘flagger’ is injured by a passing motor vehicle, there is usually a loud hew and cry from the flagging association and fraternity, and well they should, imho.
However, some of these flaggers do not have a very well honed sense of self preservation. Too many times I have observed some of these workers not paying attention to traffic around them, either gazing into space, clustered together in the road trading gossip, standing on the center line facing the stopped traffic while go traffic whizzes by them. I would like to ask all traffic controllers to please pay more attention to traffic, for your own protection.
metalman.
Charles, if the whole economic system as presently constituted is not fully financially self-liquidating in each successive cycle of production, there has to be someone, somewhere, going into increasing indebtedness.
Otherwise we could not sell into consumption all we have made in production. And when consumption diminishes or stops, production diminishes and stops. too. Or producers very quickly go broke.
You can’t solve this problem by any of the means that have been, or are being employed by those on the left, nor those on the right. The move to “austerity” that’s now rearing its ugly head again worldwide is simply the same misery in an alternative form, and will end up doing nothing towards solving any financial problems anywhere, anymore than an endless run up of debt to try to catch prices that will always be rising faster than incomes will.
It’s useless for anyone to complain that seniors, or anyone else, considered as a group, should be ‘living within their means’ when those ‘means’ are only a system of finance that does not accurately REFLECT physical reality.
Harb: “because his propane pick up is out at the BC Rail site and he needs the money to get his truck moved.”
The propane guy has been in the news lately. It is of course a scam. Apparently he goes as far as to show his calloused hands to ‘prove’ that he really is a working individual.
I’m actually surprised he’s still working his scam in this area after the media caught onto him.
Thanks to mayor Green for being open, honest and thrifty since her time in office…LOL
He has been here for at least two years working the same line, and yep he shows his hands and forearms to prove he isn’t a junky.
An addition to the propane panhandler story. I was also fed the line of “my truck was broken into and my laptop was stolen”. I didn’t buy into it. I’m a cheap SOB. I can barely get money out of myself for myself :)
Cheers folks, now go outside and enjoy whats left of our two weeks of summer that we annually get.
Agree with p bal’. Hope you don’t read this crap Sheri!
P Val!
Attention drivers-get off the cell phones, use your turn signals-don’t just drift into the other lane(s)and learn to merge!!!!!!
On another note, how do incidents like the one in Colorado happen?what makes someone do these things,so random and so pointless.
Why do they never kill themselves? Is the death penalty viable in Colorado?
Mankind and society scare me somedays. :((
Did you ever take human anatomy in school Ispy? …. remember the images of the brain and the bunch of screws holding it close to the skull???? … Well, when the third screw from the skullular foramen is lose, the person becomes totaly disoriented.
Is often described quiete simple as a “lose screw”. ;-)
I heard (or read) that Boundry Road will not be finished until about this time next year. Seems they put in the wrong dirt, and have to do a re-do. Plus other problems. Who pays for that??
In any event it doesnt seem to be moving along very fast.
Is this going to be another Prince George **White Elephant**
Is there a limit as to the number of White Elephants a City can have. Is there a maxmum number. How close are we to the max.???
Speaking of White Elephants, I wonder how the PAC is coming along? I haven’t heard much about it lately.
The support and generous donations from the community for the victims of the Lakeland Mills explosion and fire is greatly appreciated. Now that these funds have been collected, why the long delay in distributing the money to the workers? The money is needed now while families are struggling to keep afloat and find new employment. Many employees were employed at Lakeland Mills for decades, they were dedicated workers who suddenly lost their livelihood. The money was raised for the employees, let’s hope it gets to them soon while they need it most.
Whelen… Guess you didn’t sense my sarcasm.. Green has to be in the running for worst mayor in PGs history
” ….. I wonder how the PAC is coming along? I haven’t heard much about it lately.”
The City Manager made a presentation to Council a couple of meeting ago. I am not sure if I should even call it a presentation. Basically asked Council for options, giving them a few choices. SOrt of like KPMG and giving the City residents choices of whether to provide less or more of somethng. Kinda useless.
The choice was to wait for the core review process guidance. Doubt they will get any better guidance from that than they got form the City manager.
When push came to shove, finally, the truth finally came out 4 years after it should have. Luckily, right now, the truth is easier to promote because with the choice of putting on the Winter Games and realizing how bad the roads really are, a PAC is not longer on the priority list of anyone who wants to save their politcal butt.
With such things, timing is everything. The PAC people – they change somewhat after every go at the brass PAC brass ring – have never understood that simple fact, in my opinion.
