Prince George, B.C. – So far so good this forest fire season in the Prince George Fire Centre.
The Wildfire Management Branch of the Forests and Range Ministry reports a low to moderate fire danger rating in the majority of the Centre’s jurisdiction, with only the northern portion rated “high” and the very northeastern corner of the province listed as “extreme”.
There are five active fires at this time, all in that northeastern corner. The largest is the Suhm Creek fire, which has so far covered 5272 hectares.
Despite a very quiet fire season so far, there is a prohibition on open fires and firework use in the Prince George Fire Centre. It was put into effect July 13th to help prevent human-caused fires and will remain until September 30th. There are currently no bans on campfires in the region nor are there are forest use restrictions.
