Billy Barker Days Too Much For Laketown Man

Williams Lake, B.C. – A 34 year old Williams Lake man has been arrested and is facing charges of Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle and Flight from Police.
Shortly before 8pm on Saturday Quesnel RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver operating a black pickup truck leaving Billy Barker Days Festivities in the area of LeBourdais Park. Police located the Chevrolet pickup moments later in the area and flipped on the lights and sirens in order to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle initially stopped but then took off traveling south on Front Street – driving erratically and narrowly missing a white car. The truck then proceeded south on Highway 97 at excessive speeds. Attempts to stop the vehicle by Quesnel RCMP were unsuccessful.
The vehicle was later located in Williams Lake where it collided with a marked police vehicle resulting in substantial damage to both vehicles. The vehicle was abandoned nearby and the occupants fled on foot. A 34 year old Williams Lake male was apprehended by Williams Lake RCMP and Police Dog Services. He was arrested for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing the Scene of an Accident and Flight from Police.
Quesnel RCMP are asking the driver of the white car which was almost hit and anyone who may have witnessed the suspect truck fleeing the traffic stop and driving erratically through Quesnel’s downtown core to call 250-992-9211.

I hope they never release this man until he gives up the name of the other occupant of the truck.
It would be more economical to pay for all the damages than it would to keep the guy in jail for 5 years. Remember–he was drunk. Doesn’t do that every day and probably hasn’t molested any children or killed any one. Didn’t steal a 65,000 dollar ring — Lets not get too tough on the guy huh? What’s the sense of the cops wasting another of our vehicles? Why not let him run into someone insured?
There have now been two high profile cases of allegedly drunk drivers fleeing police resulting in injuries and damage to themselves and others. Is this an unintended consequence of the new impaired driving laws? Note that he is not being charged with impaired driving. Perhaps these guys think getting jail time for dangerous driving and fleeing the scene is better than the hefty fines and driving restrictions resulting from an impaired charge.
Just wonder why the guy didn’t pick on a bridge abuttment instead of a police car.
