Chetwynd Woman Victim Of Highway 97 Crash
Prince George, BC – RCMP say a woman from Chetwynd was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near the community on Thursday.
The fatal collision closed the route to all traffic from approximately noon until 8pm, two-kilometres south of Chetwynd. Police say it appears the victim’s vehicle crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming truck.
The woman was the lone occupant in the car. Her name has not been released. The other vehicle contained a family of four from Taylor and their dog. The two adults in the front seat suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The children in the backseat escaped unharmed. The family pet did not survive the crash.
Members of the RCMP’s Peace Region Traffic Services continue to investigate.

Hyw 97 south from Chetwynd should be double laned, past the coal mine mine turn offs. There is a lot of industrial traffic volume on this section of road servicing the coal mines. People try to pass and get in trouble. There is a lot of tax dollars generated in the area, double laning would be the right thing to do to reduce this safety hazard
Honest Pete,
You mean like the industrial traffic from Prince George to Vanderhoof, or the industrial traffic from Prince George to Quesnel.
I travel all 3 sections a fair amount, and in my opinion the Chetwynd corridor is 3rd of the 3 in the amount of traffic.
I guess we should double lane all roads. Or, we could drive safely, follow the rules of the road and only pass when safe.
Albus, bang on with the way you ended your post.
People like to “blame the road” but from what I saw from postings from people who witnessed the crash, she passed unsafely and paid the price.
It’s not the roads fault she drove like an idiot. The road didn’t make her do that. Heck, I’ve seen someone pass on a twinned road and go into oncoming traffic because the people in the fast lane weren’t passing the slow lane fast enough.
Don’t blame the road, blame the driver.
You both have a good points, but the fact remains there will always be bad drivers and if we increase the amount of traffic the safety factor also increases. Not saying we double lane all roads just the one that have an big increase on traffic flow due to industrial use. We need to reinvest some of the tax revenue back in the infrastructure that creates it, especially if the industry increases safety hazard to the general public
Its really too bad that her actions injured other people as well. She made a serious mistake and paid the price for it but others have to pay now too.
Something she probably didn’t think about.
Not sure how a person can pass safely when the vehicle they are passing is acctually pulled over in an unsafe spot!!! should she have stopped behind the pulled over truck???
Not sure MY SISTER is a bad driver & I do agree it is aweful their was other injuries but maybe before you all want to disrespect a daughter, sister mother who died in this accident. .. Think before you speak…. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR OUR FAMILY!!!!!!
My condolences Lorkers, I can only imagine your pain. I’m sure that the comments were not meant to hurt, but still, some of the responses are in bad taste, I agree.
metalman.
This may be classified as a rumor, but my sisters friend knows the driver that caused the accident. She said that the driver was high and sleep deprived.
Classified as a rumor????? My sisters friend knows! Oh to be so wise and all knowing….. Your comment is just as disrepectful and distastful as the others. An investigation is underway and the authorities are not even sure what exactly happened. As for being high – a toxicology report will determine that. “my sisters friend” SHAME ON YOU!!
Please know the facts before posting and have respect for the deceased. She was somebodys daughter, somebodys mother, somebodys sister and somebodys friend. She was loved so very much.
