Prince George, B.C. –  Save-On Foods at Spruceland Mall remains closed this hour following a fire on the roof.

Shortly after noon today, eleven firefighters from two halls responded in three trucks to Save-On Foods in Spruceland Mall for a fire. The initial report was of heavy smoke in an electrical room,  by the time fire fighters arrived, the  store had been evacuated.

There are no reports of any customers or staff  suffering any injuries.

Firefighters quickly determined that the fire was burning on the roof. A roofing crew had been doing repairs to the roof when a small section of the roof caught fire. Subsequent smoke had been drawn into a nearby air intake on the roof.

Once fire crews ensured the fire was out, they worked to clear smoke from the store.

There is minimal fire damage to the structure, however some smoke damage occurred.

Store officials expect to have the store closed to the public for the remainder of the day so they can continue with their clean up.  The store is expected to open  for business tomorrow.

There is no estimate of damage.

Nice job guys! Way to go!

Well, we have been told that qualified help is difficult to find …..

Roof fires caused by roofers or others working on roofs with torches are not all that rare.

Qualified help is just as hard to find as people who are willing to pay for it.

Glad to hear everything will be okay. Been too many bad news with structure fires over the last 5 years.

edjoch67 makes a valid point.

I think more like this.

When available qualified contractors/workers with years of experience can charge more because of lack of such qualified contractors, wannabees get into the system to compete …….

“buyers” of the service may be unaware or may take chances because they need to get the work done …….

The rest of the scenario can be easily projected.

To think that everyone is equal when it comes to quality work is totally wrong.

Both quality and price are independent variables and, surprise, they do vary. When shopping for service, make sure you shop for both.

“Qualified help is just as hard to find as people who are willing to pay for it.”

Too right, edjoch.
