Missing Film Maker’s Family Says Thanks

Thursday, August 2, 2012 @ 3:53 AM
New Hazelton, B.C. – The parents and sister of a documentary film maker, missing since July 4th, have issued a letter of gratitude to those who have helped in the search for their son.

Warren Sill was in the New Hazelton area to get film footage of a Kermode bear. His vehicle was reported parked at the entrance to the Whiskey Creek trail area, his camping gear still inside. There has been no sign of Warren despite detailed searches of the region.

Here is the full note from his father Herb, mother Carla and sister Maureen:

No words can express our gratitude for the tireless effort of the RCMP, volunteers, pilots, dogs and dog trainers, organizers, swift water team, Search and Rescue Team, (SAR) and all others that attempted to find Warren Sill. This complex operation was carefully coordinated. Each day, the search was carried out and adjusted accordingly to maximize the possibility of locating Warren. It was truly touching.

Warren obtained a bachelors degree in computer science, and worked at a computer help desk for 3 years. Still, he was not satisfied in his occupation. Warren was passionate about wildlife, especially the elusive Kermode bear. He studied and prepared for several months to learn survival skills, and devoured countless books on animal behavior. Fear did not stand in the way of his dream. Though he was a very young man, we are comforted by the fact that he experienced the richness of the wilderness of Canada while pursuing his goals.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Warren and are very humbled by the caring, compassionate people we have met in Canada. We can never repay our debt to the men and women who searched so tirelessly for him. Yet, we plan on spending our lives paying it forward.
Thank you all so much.

With sincere thanks, Herb, Carla and Maureen

The search for the 26  year old from Ohio was suspended on July 20th.
