Our Two MLA’s Stepped Up To The Plate To Help The PGX Centennial

Friday, August 3, 2012 @ 3:45 AM
In the  end it was the Province which, through the good graces of Shirley Bond and Pat Bell, made sure the Prince George Exhibition got the financial reprieve that it so desperately needed.
The City Council of Prince George had turned the Ex down for a $10,000 break for this year in spite of the fact that there is 90 grand sitting in the PAC fund and 10 thousand would not have broken them.
The Ex ,for the benefit of those that may not know and for those who don’t want you to know, originally gave the land to the City on which the CN Centre and Kin Centres were built.  It would seem that given that very fact that the Ex, which got hit with a lawsuit  they had to pay for,  should have received support from the city fathers.
2012 is the 100th year of the Exhibition in Prince George, to have survived all this time speaks volumes. The fact of the matter is that the Exhibition is older than the city of Prince George itself.
So while the City can find money to support groups and projects that benefit a few, the EX is not on their list.
So with that in mind and without any fan fare the two Ministers of the province stepped forward to give the Ex a helping hand.
We do hope that when the Ex officially opens it is the two MLA’s who are standing there cutting the ribbon  for this 100th edition. As for the Mayor and the rest of the council, they can buy a ticket at the gate that after all is the way they treated the EX when they came for help.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s’ opinion.

Well said!

It’s good to see a little provincial largess coming into Prince George, expecially in support of such a popular family oriented event.

Is there an election coming?

If the Ex was hit with a lawsuit thats their problem. The taxpayers shouldn’t have to take care of it. The fact the Ex gave the city the land mentioned above should be enough to work out a good deal for everyone on its own.

Mayor and council should be ashamed that they refused to help the 100 yr well established PGX…Pat and Shirley sure know how and when to shine…wouldn’t surprise me if their gov’t falls and they both get re-elected.

What is it with our current Mayor and Council that they would not help out the PGX which is celebrating it’s 100th year! Do they oppose success? The PGX has been around for 100 years. The City has 50 plus grand to buy a battery powered car that will prove nothing but crazy and yet nothing for an institution that has stood the test of time. On this subject couldn’t the city build a better park to hold the PGX? It’s current location is a joke. Perhaps the proposed park where the old Duchess Park School stood could be made into PG Exhibition Park and plan it in such a way that it could be used all year round. Use your imagination Civic Leaders..

The new garbage trucks upgrades cost 50k and the sole purpose of the upgrade is a gadget that saves fuel when the truck stops and starts. Hmmm…can buy a lot of gas for 50k…probably more than what the life of the truck will be. Seems if you put the word green and gas savings in the same sentence any amount of money will be spent to achieve that…BS I say…another waste of money, some of it being mine.

This proves two things, one the city council does not care about a long standing event in PG ( but still have money in the PAC fund that no one wants) and two the liberals are using the massive incompetence of mayor to buy our votes with our tax dollars.

Very slick political move for bond and bell and another stupid move by green
