Premier Recognizes BC Day

Monday, August 6, 2012 @ 4:00 AM

Prince George, BC – Premier Christy Clark released the following statement in recognition of B.C. Day, Monday, August 6:

"B.C. Day is an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the achievements, successes and challenges that shape and define our province.

"British Columbia is a place of inclusiveness and unlimited possibilities, coupled with unparalleled natural beauty and rich natural resources.

"For the past 154 years, British Columbians have harnessed the potential of our province and turned challenge into opportunity. Today we continue to work together to build a strong economy and a place for families to grow and thrive in vibrant multicultural communities and a safe, healthy environment.

"I hope you are able to take time on B.C. Day to enjoy all that our province has to offer. The majesty of B.C.’s natural beauty is unrivalled, and it’s right outside our doors every single day of the year. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend."

I feel so much better.

But they did extinguish the HST mattyc. Stay tuned for the name change next spring.

mattyc …. “and HST will be extinquished”…. “since you refuse to extinguish HST you will be fired”

I know I should not be responding to posts like this ….. but hey ….

Did you know that the HST will be gone next year, no matter what the election results?

Did you know that there was an agreement between Canada and both Ontario and BC which set out the process of doing that so there were no penalties to be paid?

Did you know that as soon a the HST is gone, the GST portion will continue as will the PST as previously collected?

Yes, there will be some things such as restaurant food, prepared foods, etc. which will not be taxable for the PST portion anymore …. unlesss the next government decides that is the way they will put more money into theoir coffers.

Ontario had a PST which taxed tose items, so someone may just follow suit.

But go ahead; whether you slam the Premier with ignorance or with full knowledge, really does not matter, does it? You will slam her either way …. just we now know you will do it because of rejudice rather than something she did.

Oh, did you know that she was elected to the seat in parliament?

Maybe the other thing you did not know is that te people of BC do not elect the Premier. Neither do they elect the Prime Minister. ….. ;-)

Legislature, Gus. I know, it’s early.

Ah yes… it is the Parliament Buildings of BC and it houses the Legislative Assembly …..

Never could figure out why the provinces are different from the feds ….

It is the Parliament of Canada http://www.parl.gc.ca

But it is the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia ……

No wonder they are un-parliamentarian. ;-)

It is officially the “Provincial Parliament” in Ontario, and the “National Assembly” in Quebec, but using ‘parliament’ to describe the Legislative Assembly here or whatever it’s called officially elsewhere wouldn’t be wrong, for they’re all based on the British parliamentary system.

http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/home.do

So Ontario is even more screwed up than we are ….. their web site is for the Legislative Assembly of Ontario ….

Yet, unlike our MLAs, they are called MPPs … :-) …. it is nice to see that people can come up with different names for the same thing …. “a rose by any other name is still a rose”

Once they get an second house into the province, I suspect it will be called the provincial parliament … with the commons and the senate …. ;-)

and that way we will have a body which will represent the 7 or so economic regions equally with 5 seats each ….

Ahh crap, looks like I missed a mattyc post, that makes my day seem a bit less fulfilling.

BTW, is there a special glow in the air on BC Day or something like that?

Just wondering have far away one can recognize BC Day when it gets here…… ;-)

BC Day is one of those days that really flies by….first-thing ya know it’s BTW (back to work):(

Did christy celebrate it with more overly wasteful charges on her credit card ?

Well, at least like Dominion Day and Empire Day no one’s messed around trying to call it something else. Yet.

BC day, Family day???
Just another work day…
Christy and her Liberals can take a long walk off a short pier….

On a nice summer day like today, that would be the perfect thing to do …… splash ….. ah… refreshing…!!!!!

In my opinion, a salutation from the Premier of our province on a well deserved day of rest is more than welcome. Clearly some people have nothing better to to do than bitch. Life is to short…to get excited.
