Friday, August 17, 2012 @ 12:00 AM
It’s that time of the week again, when you get to speak up on the matters that have struck a chord with you over the past 7 days.
It is time for the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL.
You pick the topic, but, as always, obey the three simple rules:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal
No bullying of other posters.

Nothin’ at 6.27? really?? Have a great FRIDAY..
A bouquet goes out this mornig to the city employees who keep the gardens on Connaught hill looking so beautiful. Have a safe and happy weekend everybody!!
We have had a fantastic summer we are having!
Get out there and enjoy another weekend of great weather.
Goin Fishin
When entering Fort George park on 20th on your right there is a narrow paveed winding pathway with curbs. Does anyone have information what this pathway is supposed to be?
So did I hear correctly that the residential street the mayor lives on got paved this year?
Is very smelly in the bowl again this morning….we hard on a person’s lungs!!!
I believe that paved path is for wheel chair access to sort of stroll in that part of the park.
Narrow paved trail by Fort George park is a bike trail for kids or for anyone else that has wheels or legs. It just loops through the woods and has been there for years.
Soon the HST will be extinquished along with the FULL contingent of the LIE berals.
Then the NDP will take over and hopefully have the guts to make corporations PAY what the owe. That means a fair share. Say 40 percent. Then this province will have the money to look after the people here. Just hope Dix has the guts to do it and MAKE THEM PAY.
“Then this province will have the money to look after the people here.”
Perhaps it’s time people started looking after themselves instead of expecting the rest of us to pony up the cash for their well being?
Dix, is one scary leader, he is so far left, he is out of the field.
This is my prediction with Dix.
1) Increase on corporate and personal taxes with in one year.
2) Unemployent in the resource sector will rise with in two years.
3) No new mines, they will say they want it, but the mining companies will not invest under a socialist government
4) Your house value will fall 40% by the end of their terms.
5) Increase in services during the first half of their term, severe cuts on the last half of their terms.
6) Increase on the Provincial debt load, due to excessive spending, not because of global economy.
7) HST will return with in two years,
8) We will become the have not province by the end of his term.
9) Increased numbers on social assistence because they will increase the benefits, and more people will need it because of a unhealthy economy, due to the fact the resource businesses will not be globally competitive because of over taxation
10) Great time to have money saved up for the end of their term, buy cheap real estate.
Ten check marks for He Spoke. Does Matty not understand that corporate tax could be 100% and its still zero if there are no corporations?
Natural disasters will increase, swarms of locusts, fir beetles and the skies will be cloudy all year round.
Corporate taxes were at 15%….the Liberals lowered them to 10%….is business booming? Is unemployment eradicated? Has the deficit been wiped out? Just more evidence that Liberal radical right wing policies don’t work, company profits rise and they reinvest in third world countries.
Speaking of HST, have all of our disadvantaged families and seniors been getting HST rebates in the mail?? I remember Christy Clarke selling the HST and acknowledging it would hurt some families…she told us her government wouldn’t let that happen…because they care about BC seniors and families.
Let’s judge this government on what they say, and what they do….who is getting HST rebate checks?
Just got back from Alberta, Seen signs I have not seen in BC for years…Now Hiring..Workers wanted…Drivers wanted..What the hell, maybe the Goverment of BC can learn somthing from Alberta. Then. Maybe Not.
I heard that The mayor is planning to cut snow removal, no more driveways are to be done and the snow has to be deeper on our roads before the plows come out, I heard they are also planning to sell off some of our parks and the 4 seasons pool.
If this is true she wonât be getting my familyâs vote again.
Good post He Spoke. People like mattyc have no idea how an economy functions. It is of no concern to people who think like him, as long as the ‘big bad corporations’ are punished.
He Spoke:
Almost sounds like we would be electing Glen Clark all over again, doesn’t it?
Dix will not have a cake walk should the NDP win the next election. The Liberals are currently paying out1.9 billoion to service the provincial debt. Something like PG who pays out 14% of the budget to service the City debt.
It appears to be a phylosophy of our right wing governments to create massive debt that becomes a mill stone around the neck of the middle class that will eventually have to repay these loans.
cheers
lets talk traffic circles again! Do people not get that you have to frikken signal entering and leaving a traffic circle (or roundabout)?! It is certainly a death defying stunt driving around in this town, every man for himself! Oh, don’t you dare drive even 5 k over the speed limit though !
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
you want my opinion on the oil line..
Slim2229, unfortunately it will be worse than Glen Clarke. I do believe Dix was the president of the ndp and he pulled the strings, and Glen danced.
So what do people want? Communism. Keep the liberals in forever? 12 years is too long for one and any party. Time for a change regardless of who gets in. Two terms should be the max!
No Lieberals comebacks on HST rebates? ;-). Or is there no plausible excuse besides the fast ferries?
When Adrian Dix gets elected as premier then we can judge him harshly…until then the BC Liberals are responsible for what is happening in our province. Bloated management and 70% salary increases within ICBC…legislature spending out of control and no standard accounting in place…moose and sheep populations plummeting and no count records available, no timber supply plan……but we sure have a plan to sell of the governments profitable liquor distribution branch.
@checkitout. There is only one time when it is required to signal when entering a traffic circle.
I should clarify…you DO have to signal when entering a traffic circle IF you are making the equvalent of a right turn. So if you are turning east off the Cameron street bridge onto the PG pulp mill road then you should signal your intent before you enter the circle. However if you are going straight through OR around the circle and headed west then you signal when you exit the circle.
Easy peasy.
Unfortunately, all governments are facing a huge problem as the baby boomers are entering the retirement age over the next two decades.
between pensions and healthcare expectation it is going to be a huge bill. We need to do a few things right.
1) Get into our resources and make the most of our resources and sell it. This mean no raw logs, This means process the copper in the province. This means value added.
2) Keep the corporation’s healthy and competitive, keep the working stiff’s working in good – high paying jobs.
3) If enbridge wants the oil line, I think we should be getting a bit more than 200 million dollars a year to run it thru our province. It should be a minimum of a billion dollars, plus full infrastructure in place to deal with spills.
4) Find a better way to govern, have less government. They did well with privatizing the road maintenence, centralizing the health care.
5) Start being proactive about personal health care. Educate the populace about better lifestyles. You can’t continue to drink beer, eat chips, and sit on the couch than expect the doctor to cure your of your ailments.
6) Federally, we need to change the laws where, go back to old school a bit. You commit the crime, you do the time. Not this, you bad… dont do this again, please.
7) Change the mind set of the people, the government is all of us. We do not live in dictatorship nor under Lords. We are the government, and we have to understand that we are accountable for our actions. Be a community proud of our province, expect to do things that has no rewards, other than the warm fuzzy feeling
8) Foster new investments into the province, into the communities. Let free enterprise be our cornerstone to increase taxation revenues.
Media magnate David Black is proposing a $13 million oil refinery in Kitimat. Game changer. Completely changes the perceived benefit to perceived risk. Think of all those good union jobs and government tax revenues. What is Adrian Dix to do?
Pipelines and marine transport are about to get a whole lot safer all of a sudden…

Wow, that’s what I mean by value added. Lets build it…. it should work out.
PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE: PETITION – JUSTICE FOR CAPTAIN
A petition has been created in honour and memory of Captain, a 2-year-old German Shepherd dog, who was discovered on July 18, 2012 wrapped in a bloody sheet and left in a dumpster in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. When Captain was found he was emaciated, and had been stabbed and brutally beaten (rendered quadriplegic and with brain hemorrhaging). Captain passed away from cardiac arrest shortly after being rescued from the dumpster. Captain’s current “owner” is suspected in Captain’s death, and although the BC SPCA has recommended charges in Captain’s death, no person has yet been charged. This petition is to lobby our government (British Columbia and federal) to construct and enforce strong animal cruelty laws. If you would like to sign, please do so at the attached link. Adding comments would be beneficial. PLEASE SHARE â the more signatures we get the more likely we will be able to effect change. Thank you.

Ten check marks for He Spoke. Does Matty not understand that corporate tax could be 100% and its still zero if there are no corporations?
Crap, I hate it when I refresh hours later – sorry for the double. Have a great weekend all!
Historically we are more likely to be hit by lightening and win a mega-lottery on the same day than we are to have NO corporations.
David Black may be onto something. Love to see Suzuki foaming at the mouth over this proposal.
Did I say $13 million? I meant $13 BILLION. What’s a few zeros…?
Didn’t someone tell us it wasn’t economically feasible to build a refinery in Canada and that’s why they want pipelines built? Who exactly is blowing smoke??
Oh Jim13135, it laughable to think that BC has a “radical right wing party” come on, our right wing government even have to call themselves Liberals…stoll over to Alberta, now THAT’S a right wing government, which has an even more right wing opposition.
David Black, did he buy his way out of jail.
Build right over a salmon bearing river, excellent. pour some mercury in it so those pesky fish dont come back.
I am a low income senior who has never received a HST rebate. I know other low income families who work, some who make less money than if they were on welfare, and they have never received a rebate. Maybe you have to be on welfare to receive it?
He spoke: CONRAD Black went to jail, not David.
Jim13…Dix will gut this province. period.
you heard it here first – Haldi Road won their court case. Congratulations to the Neighbourhood…..
matty did you post on this board that you want corporations to pay their fair share while on the conifex thread admitting that you work for cash and dont pay your fair share.
Are you seriously that challenged???
graymare, did you file your tax return? Because I know quite a few people who just received their HST check, they weren’t for a huge amount, but enough to help a person out.
The HST rebate cheques are based on income. A low income earner, ie; making $20,000.00 or less would receive $230.00 per year, paid in four installments of $57.50. A family or four earning $25,000.00 per year or less would receive $920.00 per year, or four installments of $230.00.
Keep in mind that this rebate is in fact the Government giving you back the money that you paid in HST because you are a low income earner. So in essence you just dont pay any HST. The problem with this rebate, like all things touched by the Liberals is that it is flawed. I suspect that low income single earners pay a hell of a lot more in HST than $230.00 per annum.
In any event come next April it will be gone, (along with the Liberals) and we can thank Vanderzalm for that.
Now the real problem is, we have no viable alternative. The Liberals are less than honest, the NDP is less than competent, and the Convervatives wont get their plane off the ground.
We need a large number of Independents to run in the next election to send a message to these parties, that we are not satisfied with any of them, and its time for some serious change
People living at or under $20,000 per year are required to pay HST tax and Carbon Tax , and 10% annual increases to their hydro bills and and and…..really they might just live better if they got themselves incarcerated?
Dow7500….I guess we will find out in 2013. Personally I prefer to slag political groups for what they do while in power rather than what we speculate they will do if given power.
“People living at or under $20,000 per year are required to pay HST tax and Carbon Tax , and 10% annual increases to their hydro bills and…”
So in your world people making $20,000 or less shouldn’t have to pay taxes? Could they still use the roads? Visit the doctor?
“Posted by: dow7500 on August 17 2012 1:03 PM
Jim13…Dix will gut this province. period.”
Any gutting will be done by those business people that leave BC once they see their cash cow Liberal govt no longer running the good ship SS Freetaxdollarsforyou. Period!
Yes, they shouldn’t have to pay taxes on top of taxes. If they drive they paid sales tax to buy the vehicle, they pay taxes when they buy fuel for that car, they are over charged for basic insurance (hidden ICBC tax that is siphoned off by government).
People that live on $20,000 or less per year should be given a tax exemption card that forgives them paying any tax, they are poor what is wrong with giving them equality with FNs?
The Citizen paper just hit a new low. They discribe in lewid detail the sexual interference as it is called, to a female minor. They describe the events and the young girls actions. They describe the members of this family and the small community they live in so that it would take no thought for anyone in the area to know who this girl is.
Why did the Citizen report this way? What a vile disgusting paper. If I had the resources I would file a lawsuit that would shut that disgusting paper down once and for all.
Citizen, just think of what you yourselves did to that girl, how can any of you look at yourselves in the mirror.
mnielsen you are a real piece of work.
Taxes….a person should get a tax write off for every $ they can prove they spent in BC. Just like a corporation that gets to write off business trips and expenses. If its OK for the corporation why not the blue collar worker?
OMG Jim – I don’t even no where to start… So if you take your wife out to dinner it should be a write off the same way me taking a client out for lunch to talk business is a write off? I see why you dream of Dix at night
Interceptor-why not? You can write off CCA and your insurance and hydro and a whole host of things…..let’s trade our personal income tax exemptions in for the same deal…we should only pay taxes on what we have left over (profits) every quarter. People that put all their money back into the BC business community should pay should pay no more tax than a company that makes no profits. :-). Equality is a wonderful thing eh??
The only problem with your equality suggestion Jim is that we are not all equals. Some people are smarter than others, some people are better looking than others, some people work harder than others, some people have better manners than others…. It goes on and on.

What is wrong with a widow or pensioner or single mom being allowed to live with some dignity? Why is our tax system allowed to push them into insolvency? Most of these people could manage if the tax man kept his fingers out of their pockets.
Sorry about the double post. My smartphone is not equal to my desktop.
“What is wrong with a widow or pensioner or single mom being allowed to live with some dignity? Why is our tax system allowed to push them into insolvency? Most of these people could manage if the tax man kept his fingers out of their pockets. “
Granting tax-exempt status based on income will just open up a whole can of worms.
“did anyone else notice that there is demolition going on with Kin Center 2 as well as with Kin 1…
I also noticed construction going on on the west sice of kin2…
did I miss something?
did they slide through more money without asking us to do this?”
I believe the plan called for expanding the seating in Kin 2?
“What is wrong with a widow or pensioner or single mom being allowed to live with some dignity? Why is our tax system allowed to push them into insolvency? Most of these people could manage if the tax man kept his fingers out of their pockets”
Our tax system is designed by the rich to keep them rich. If they allow the less fortunate to gain a little the rich have hissy fits!
I wonder who this Black guy, is being paid by, to help get the Enbridge pipeline built?
I think the next election should include health benefits paid by BC seniors. BC is the only Province in Canada that charges seniors for health care. What is wrong here? Seniors have all ready paid their dues during their working lives. I don’t want to hear the BS about people retiring here either. Ontario has more retired people than the total BC population.

Does Interceptor not understand that corporate tax could be 100% and the amount of tax payable would be zero if there were no profits, but the company would simply go on, making products, providing services, paying its suppliers and employees and adding to the general well being of the community by distributing money to the workers in community.
