Heat Wave Sparks New Forest Fires

Prince George, B.C. – The number of forest fires burning in B.C. has, not surprisingly, risen with the rise in temperature in recent days.
There have been seven new fire outbreaks in the Prince George Fire Centre since Friday, all of those in the northern and northeast portions of the centre’s jurisdiction. The largest of the fires to date remains the Suhm Creek fire way up in the extreme northeast corner of the province. It has covered 8,697 hectares.
There are 27 fires burning in the Prince George Fire Centre, 45 in the entire province, as the mercury continues to hit the low 30s throughout much on BC. All of the fires burning are in isolated areas.
The fire danger rating is high in most of the province, extreme in the Chilcotin region.
