Prince George, B.C.- As families head out to shop for back to school supplies, the Prince George Salvation Army is hoping they will buy a little extra, or make a cash donation, to help those children who are less fortunate.
The Salvation Army’s annual Backpack and School Supplies goal, is to raise funds and school supplies for kids in need in Prince George.
Working in partnership with TD Canada Trust, Starbucks and the Pine Centre Mall, the Salvation Army hopes to provide the necessary school supplies for children whose families cannot afford the supplies.
Those who would like to help can drop off new school supplies at any of these locations:
· all three TD Canada Trust Locations in Prince George,
· Starbucks in College Heights, Spruceland, 15th & Central and the Pine Centre Mall,
· Yellow School Bus in Pine Centre Mall,
· Salvation Army at 777 Ospika Boulevard.
Or you can make a financial contribution by dropping it off at the Salvation Army or by making a donation on your credit card by calling 250-564-4000
Here is the basic list of school supply needs:
· Pens (assorted colors
· Duotangs
· Pencils
· Eraser
· Lined paper (packs of 200-400)
· Rulers
· Binders
· Highlighters
· White-Out
· Glue Sticks
· Geometry Sets
· Calculators
· Child Safety Scissors
· Crayons
· Markers
Salvation Army Administrative Assistant, Bill Glasgow, says they will be doing something different this year, in that, when a family registers, the school supply needs for each and every child will be noted, and volunteers will put together a school supply back pack specifically for that child. “It will be more time consuming for our volunteers” says Glasgow, but he adds, it should reduce the chaos on the distribution day “Instead of having 500 parents lined up outside the Salvation Army waiting for their chance to fill a back pack, they will come in , and receive the pack that’s already been filled to meet their child’s school supply requirements. “
Glasgow says last year, about 500 children in Prince George were part of this program.
Families in need of assistance through this program are asked to register with the Salvation Army Tuesday August 28th or Tuesday September 4th between 9am and 11 am. The supplies will be distributed Monday September 10th.

Pretty sad that we pay the highest taxes in Canada and we have to donate for something we pay huge taxes on. Sorry that’s the BC Liberal Gov way. They need the money for their coporate friends, silly me.
