Prince George, BC – And the crowd went wild, as Sean Hotzak hit a two-run homer in the 7th inning to give the Prince George Axemen a 4-2 win over the Fort Saskatchewan A’s at Citizen Field…

With the victory, the Axemen advance to the gold medal game at the 2012 Canadian Senior Men’s Baseball Championship at 7pm.

The Axeman fell to the Athletics 3-2 on Friday night – their only loss in the round robin.  After five innings this morning, the host team was trailing 2-0 before Brandon Hunter turned the Axemen’s fate with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the 6th.

Pitcher Keenan Takatch got the win, coming in to replace Jesse Peters in the 7th inning.

Axemen Manager, Jim Swanson, says, “We got clutch performances all the way through, that’s how we’ve played all tournament.”

"Jesse Peters was very tough on the mound, again, he’s money in the bank, says Swanson.

"Brandon Hunter’s home run could not have been more clutch, and Sean Hotzak is a veteran shortstop, a calming influence on the whole team, because he’s so reliable in every facet of the game. Hotzak’s home run is one none of us will forget, a walk-off win – no better way to provide a little excitement for the fans, and we can’t wait to give Prince George a national championship. We have a shot, we’ve earned our way here, and now we need to take care of a little business.” (250Sports photo at left shows Hunter lining up for his home run hit)

The Axemen will face the winner of the other semi-final, which starts at 12:30pm, featuring the defending champion, Windsor Stars, against New Brunswick’s Chatham Ironmen.
