Council Says Yes to Extended Hours at Original Joe’s
Prince George, B.C.- The new restaurant in College Heights, Original Joe’s, wants to extend the time it can offer alcohol to its patrons but in order to have the application approved, it will need the support of Prince George City Council. Council served up that support on a platter.
While the application only seeks an extension of it’s serving time by one hour on the weekends, that is one hour too many for at least one resident in that area. A letter opposing the extension was part of the public hearing at Council this evening. In the letter, resident Brian Brownridge, says the "addition of this Restaurant/Bar has increased the vehicle traffic as well as the noise level considerably in the neighbourhood. We certainly don’t need to add to that problem by extending the operating hours on the weekend for the bar."
A neighbour appeared to address council, Jennifer Suave noted issues with noise, traffic congestion, increased traffic volume, the lack of screening of the garbage disposal area and the failure to remove construction debris. She says the overflow parking is already spilling on to City land, and when the place closes at night, there is a lot of noise.
The manager of the restaurant says the garbage disposal issue has been dealt with, and the landscaping of the property is complete. He notes that staff clean up the area before opening each day, and the application would only call for the extra hour of opening on Friday and Saturday nights.
Council has given unanimous support to the application, with Councilors Lyn Hall and Albert Koehler absent from the meeting.

I sympathize with the area residents, but they only have to wait until the next trendy place opens up, the bulk of the traffic will then flow in that new direction. Kind of like Lemmings.
metalman.
So they moved all the stores from downtown to college heights now they will move the bars to college heights.
Cant imagine why the downtown core is empty?
OJs is a restaurant, something college heights has been sorely lacking.
I noticed CH pub has a large expansion underway. Wonder if they will be adding seats or is everyone just getting more space for their seats.
I wonder when someone will be gutsy enough to propose a multi storey office building in that area.
OJs is a very nice middle of the road restaurant competing with such others as Earl’s, Moxi, Mr. Mikes and the Keg.
There seems to be a battle with that style of restaurant and the better quality pubs with respect to price point on food and drink.
Welcome to PG. Good to see a new business in town no matter how hard the mayor and council try to scare them away.
There is no downtown in PG. Its just a huge waste of our money trying to bring it back to life.. I am still waiting for our mayor to move downtown, as she recently stated that’s where people want to live. Step up Green.
She is waiting for the 800k condo in that smancy new hotel they are going to build. She requested an easterly view so she can say “I can see work from my house” with Sara Palin drawl.
