School Year Has Different Look Says Abbott

Tuesday, August 28, 2012 @ 2:59 PM

Prince George, B.C.- B.C.’s Education Minister George Abbott says this new school year, is very different from the one he faced at this time  a year ago.

You will recall that last September, the school year got underway with the Teachers exercising job action as they pressed their contract demands.

The dispute, which dragged on through the entire school year,  came  to an end  with a mediated report under the guidance of Charles Jago.

Next March, the contract negotiations will get underway again, as the contract will be into its second year.

There are just over 6,000 fewer students registered for B.C. public schools this fall, that’s a decrease of more than 63 thousand students since 2000-2001.

This is the second year for all day kindergarten, an expansion which Abbott  credits teachers and principals for  making the transition so smooth.

According to the Ministry of Education, more than 94% of classes in public schools had 30 or fewer students.

Funding this year, is set at $4.725 billion, up $4 million from the previous school year.

This is what gets the BC Liberals in trouble, sitting fat, dumb, and happy as if everything is just hunky-dory. Just think of “not on our radar”?

Good for you Abbott and hats off to Dr. Jago. Now the NDP will get in and the merry go round will start all over.

Thjnese MLS’s are leaving this sinking ship like rats.
Cheers

When you get throw with the school
year there probably will be no school for the children.
Cheers

Sounds more like no children for the schools.

“There are just over 6,000 fewer students registered for B.C. public schools this fall, that’s a decrease of more than 63 thousand students since 2000-2001.”

The problem is that some places still have an increase in school children, so they still build new schools while in other places they are closing schools.

Maybe we need some residential schools. ;-)

What are Thjnese MLS’s ?

Read it fast middle finger and you should come up with “these”.

MLS = Multiple Listing Service?

The end of the next school year will have a different look to George. One that doesn’t include you.

‘This is what gets the BC Liberals in trouble, sitting fat, dumb, and happy as if everything is just hunky-dory. Just think of “not on our radar”?’

How stupid are you? A decrease of 63,000 students in about 10 years, due to the inexorable demographics of 21st century North America.

You think we should hire more teachers at higher salaries with more generous benefits to teach fewer children?

That’s the essence of the NDP entitlement mentality – ignore what’s happening in the real world and demand more and more from the taxpayer.

Move to Greece you loser.

Well rocky obviously your education system has failed you as your intelligence is shinning through! Where did I say we needed to hire more teachers rocky? Read it slowly rocky so your small mind can take it all in. As far as wages go I work in the private sector and have received increases in pay, perhaps with your education background, cleaning toilets for a living has been a little hard for you to get a raise, rocky. Do a little research if you can read, on how this government has handled various Ministry’s rocky. We just had a forest report on how the BC Liberals handled the forests, and they failed miserably. Without a doubt the forest report is a small sampling of the overall performance of a terrible govrernmnt.

6,000 fewer students, budget increased by $4 Million? So, who is in charge again?

Think about it Chester, 4 million on a 4.725 billion dollar budget, is less than 1%. Do you think there may be inceasing costs with respect to the infrastructure of a school system, buildings, burearucrats, Jago’s, snowplowing, maintenance. Probably amounting to more than 1% and at least to inflation. Now with the teachers contract imposed on them at 0%, and many teachers laid off in June, looks like the kids are the only place left for George Abbott to take money from to run an infrastructure like the school system at less than inflation. Looks to me like a politician is running the school system and he is running it to please a party base that does not think in reality.

6,000 fewr students. The parents have probably up routed their kids and moved out of province.

Sorry “fewer”

Well Taxed Out, if the bottom feeders form a government next May Taxed Out, that’ll be the time Taxed Out to uproot the kids Taxed Out and move to Alberta Taxed Out.

See ya rocky, have fun in Alberta rocky, Alberta needs toilet cleaners too rocky, don’t let the door hit you in the a## on the way out rocky.

Sorry about the botch in spelling. My fingers go faster then whats upstairs. Wish there were a school I coiuld attend but there aint no money for me.

Would be interesting to know how many students attend private schools. The Catholic school in PG dose a booming busines and the reports on their school is tops.
Cheers

Rocky and Taxed Out;

Just how old are you two?

How come America celebrates their teachers and we crap on ours?

mama t,
Maybe detention for them till they learn to play nice?

People are sending more of their children to private schools as it costs less then it did years ago. At one time a parent paid the whole cost and then the government started supporting private schools and that is when the public schools started having money problems. Each year a larger % of money is sent to the public schools and less to the public schools. Having sent children to both the public and private schools (paying the full costs) I see the advantage of both systems. But the best advantage of the public is being in the real world.
