Things Are Reserved at BC Parks

Sunday, September 2, 2012 @ 4:16 AM

Victoria, B.C. – Camping reservations at B.C. provincial parks have set a new all-time record in 2012, climbing above 100,000 for the first time. As of Aug. 26th, reservations at BC Parks totalled 104,878 for the year, an 11 per cent increase over the same period during the 2011 season.

All BC Parks campgrounds are open over the Labour Day weekend. Many also remain open throughout September, allowing visitors to enjoy an end to the summer season.

Another highlight of the season is British Columbia’s long-stay camping program. It is available after Labour Day at four B.C. provincial parks. For seniors, there are additional reasons to go camping after the start of September. Senior camping discounts are available to B.C. residents 65 years of age and older from the day after Labour Day through June 14 of next year. Discounts are valued at up to 50 per cent.

We used to climb in our slusher six (six cylender engine) and head for a BC Park somewhere. First come first served.Pitched the tent, built a camfire drnk a beer and enjoyed the great outdoors. I guess it dosent work like that anymore.

Today we live in a wonderfull progressive society but is it rely progressive.
Cheers

No more Reservations after Labour Day and 1/2 Price for us over 65, heading to the Island , Gardening is just about done , dig out the Potatoes when getting back.
Not buying any Firewood at the Campground at 6Bucks for a few Sticks, wait until getting home to fire up the Woodstove. Happy Camping
all we need is Sunshine. Never liked the Reservation System, the Place you would like to go to is booked for the whole Summer.

The reservation system works great for us. It allows me to know that there will be a spot for us when we get there. Some parks don’t have reservations, like at Whiskers Point, north of town. None of the parks that we have reserved at are all reservations, most sites remain first come first served at: Bear Lake, Charlie Lake, Liard Hot springs, and Beaumont. (Those are the ones I reserved at this summer)
So, you can still go out, pick a site, and camp. We had a wonderful long weekend of camping at a Provincial Campsite. :)
