The Prince George Cougars are 3-0 on the preseason after a 3-1 victory at home against the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night. Colin Jacobs and Alex Forsberg each recorded two points, and Brett Zarowny turned aside 26 of 27 shots faced to record his third victory of the WHL preseason.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Jake Mykitiuk opened the game’s scoring on a powerplay. Jordan Tkatch fed him a great pass, and he was off to the races. Mykitiuk beat Laurent Brossoit from in close for his second goal of the preseason. The Cougars outshot Edmonton 13-8 in the first period.

After killing off a penalty early in the second, the Prince George Cougars struck again. Colin Jacobs, Alex Forsberg and Zach Pochiro combined for a gorgeous goal to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Pochiro finished off a dandy cross-ice pass from Alex Forsberg for his first goal of the preseason.

Late in the second, the Cougars would strike again. This time it was Colin Jacobs who deflected home a point shot from Rinalds Rosinskis to make it 3-0 Prince George. Alex Forsberg added the second assist for his second point of the night.

Edmonton did have a 12-7 edge in shots during the second, but Brett Zarowny stood tall and turned them all aside. He controlled his rebounds well, and the group in front of him didn’t allow too many second opportunities from in close.

Edmonton would eventually get on the board at 7:31 of the third period. Aaron Irving took a shot from the left point that found it’s way through traffic. That broke the Prince George Cougars opponent’s scoreless streak that had lasted five-and-a-half periods.

Edmonton finished the game on a four-minute power play, but the Cougars penalty-killing unit stood tall and finished the game seven-for-seven. The Cougars powerplay went one-for-seven.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow night at CN Centre. Puck drops at 7:00.
