Prince Rupert, B.C. – A decision on a proposed potash terminal in Prince Rupert is getting closer.
Canpotex Terminals Limited and the Prince Rupert Port Authority want to develop and operate a potash export terminal along with a rail, road, and utilities corridor on Ridley Island. The terminal would have the capacity to provide an annual throughput of approximately 13 million tonnes of potash per year.
The public will have one more chance to comment on the project itself and the comprehensive study before the matter goes to the federal environment minister for a decision. The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s Comprehensive Review of the project concludes that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Public comments on the 87 page report and the project itself are being accepted until October 5th.
If approved, the proponents are hoping to start work on the export terminal in 2013.
Comments
This is certainly good news for the Port of Prince Rupert.
Historically potash was handled through the Port of Vancouver.
