Update on Police Shooting May Come Later Today

Wednesday, September 12, 2012 @ 9:59 AM
Prince George, B.C.- There is very little information coming from the Independent Investigations Office into the fatal police shooting that occurred Monday night in east Pineview.

The Coroner is expected to officially release the name of the deceased some time today, but IIO spokesperson Owen Court says he does not know if the deceased has been moved from the scene.

He also is not able to say how long the team of investigators is expected to be in Prince George.

The previous practice in cases such as this, would see the body moved to Kamloops for an autopsy. Court is not able to say if that is the procedure that will be followed in this case.

Greg Matters was fatally shot by an RCMP officer Monday evening at a rural Prince George property.

According to the initial release from RCMP, Matters had been the subject of an investigation which RCMP say lead them to   call in the Emergency Response Team and establish  a perimeter.  At some point, there was an interaction between Matters and the police, and Matters was shot.

Seems like there may be a problem with this
IIO Group.

It appears that little thought was given to handling investigations in the rural areas.

We will have to see how this one works out, however it appears to be petty slow going.

This investigation should be slow and meticulous, the only way to do it. Doubt it will wrap up for a month.

The definition of rural is slow ……

urban is fast ….

you want a fast investigation? move to the big city.

If we had fast in a rural area, it would no longer be rural.

Of course, we could get the forest fire first response team to parachute in …. they have experience with accessing rural areas quickly …. but still not as fast a a 3 alarm fire response on Georgia Street in Vancouver ……. ;-)

What? You’re saying they can’t wrap this up in an hour like they do on “Law and Order?”

Gus & Johnny, yer hilarious!

I would give them adequate time to find what happened. The government, police and the media’s creadability is in serious doubut with the BC Rail truths now being un earthed by Alex G. Tsakumis. I say give them an an appropropriate amount of time to respond before making comments. IMO

At least Palopu gave them a day. Others had this wrapped up yesterday without so much as stepping foot on the property.

Heres another story of whatm could happen today. So why not wate untill it happens and then give us the facts.

Our armchair detectives are also just guessing.
Cheers

Sorry folks, I get a little frustrated with some comments about this sad story.
First of all we have a victims family and a police officer going through some very trying times, some question the competence of the investigators, the amount of investigators, some blame it on the government, some have a little bit of alleged knowledge concerning the victim. Information is expanded, to fit whatever another poster throws in to the picture. Suddenly, its warped out of reality. It’s gonna take a while for these folks to do the job right. I think it’s a good thing. There’s a fellow at the helm who’s creating an organization that everyone wants, lets wait and see what they can accomplish.

The sad thing is he died a death that was probably a form of his worst nightmare. Dealing with ethnic cleansing in Bosnia he would have seen his fair share of government forces showing up to eliminate people… probably just wanted a quiet place out of the way where no one would bother him and he would be safe from the kind of things he saw?
