Coroners Service Confirms Name of Police Shooting Victim
Prince George B.C.- The B.C. Coroners Service has officially released the name of the man who was shot to death by RCMP Monday night on an east Pineview property.
The deceased is, 40 year old Gregory John Matters of Prince George.
The release from the Coroners Service says Matters had been involved in a stand-off after he became the subject of a police investigation. Repeating the information initially released by the Prince George RCMP, the Coroner’s Service release says "The RCMP called in the Emergency Response Team and established a perimeter. On the evening of Sept. 10, there was an interaction between Matters and the police, and Matters was shot. "
The on-duty shooting involved the RCMP Emergency Response Team who had been deployed to the area.
The Independent Investigations Office and BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate this death.
Nine investigators with the IIO remain in Prince George, and are expected to be here for at least a couple more days. The IIO investigators are conducting investigative activities such as scene examination, interviews and the collection of evidence.
