Haisla and Province Lay Groundwork for LNG
Prince George, B.C.- The Provincial Government and the Haisla have developed what they are calling a “framework agreement” that will set the foundation for another LNG export facility.
The agreement provides the structure for a land purchase or lease that will allow the Haisla to partner with industry to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and marine export terminal on the west side of the Douglas Channel in the areas around Haisla Reserve #6.
"This agreement allows the Haisla to look at the land on the west side of the Douglas Channel in a different light” says Ellis Ross, Chief Councillor of the Haisla Nation. “This gives the Haisla and associated projects the certainty needed for the LNG proposals and other projects coming forward for our territory. If we are able to do this, the Haisla people will benefit, as will all British Columbians and Canadians."
The Haisla Nation is supportive of advancing the LNG industry in British Columbia. This agreement has the potential to fast-track a major LNG facility in the Kitimat area.
Two LNG facilities and marine export terminals have already received export licences from the National Energy Board – Kitimat LNG and BC LNG Douglas Channel. Other proponents are in various stages of assessing additional LNG facilities, including the recently announced LNG Canada.

I’m all for BC getting the most for its resources, but they say they will get 5-times what they can get in a North American market.
My question is will this now increase my home heating bill by five times once these projects are online? Essentially my heating bill will be more than my mortgage if I have to compete with warmer climates for my energy needs.
I think if it goes ahead people in BC will suffer meeting our own domestic energy prices. I think the only way these projects should go ahead is if we have a export tax that goes towards rebates to lower the domestic end user costs… otherwise how will we survive the winters?
I bet if these project go ahead hydro heat and wood heat will be the only way people will be able to afford to stay warm in the winter months.
