Smoke From Wildfire May Be Visible in P.G.
Prince George, B.C. – There may be wildfire smoke visible in the area over the next few days as a wildfire near Entiako Lake in Tweedsmuir Park continues to burn.
The Northwest Fire Centre is managing the fire in what is classed a “modified response” which means nearby cabins and structures are being protected, the fire is being monitored with daily air patrols but it is being allowed to burn in some areas.
This type of response falls within the park’s Fire Management Plan which recognizes there are some ecological benefits to the fire as it returns nutrients to the soil, promotes new growth and removes the build up of forest fuels creating a natural firebreak .
The fire is currently estimated to be 1,700 hectares and is being assessed daily.
A forecast of warm and dry weather, coupled with afternoon winds, may make the plume of smoke from this fire more visible in communities across the North, including Prince George, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Ft. St. James, Tumbler Ridge and the Grassy Plains area.
