Dog Licencing Fees Set to Increase
Monday, September 17, 2012 @ 3:59 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The cost to licence your pooch may be going up.
This evening, Prince George City Council will be asked to boost the cost of a dog licence and the impoundment fees.
Right now, the cost of a licence for a spayed or neutered dog ( that is not considered “dangerous”) is $27.50. The bylaw would increase that fee to $32.00. You can catch a break if you buy that licence before the end of January as the fee would then be $24.00.
The bylaw changes would also boost the amount charged for impoundment of a dog that was at large.
The new rate would be , $91.00 for the first offence ( for a licensed dog) , up from the current amount of $82.50 plus $15 dollars per day .
The proposed changes would also see the fees increased for business licences.
Council will also look at the proposed amendments to the zoning bylaw as it pertains to definitions for care facility minor, or major. The City says the change would bring the bylaw into line with Provincial regulations.
There will be a public hearing on the downtown development permit area guidelines. The guidelines set out the desired elements for downtown building renovations or development.
While this evening’s Council meeting is set to start at 6:00, it will only be to call the meeting to order and then it will be recessed to 7:00. When it reconvenes at 7:00, the meeting will celebrate success before moving into several public hearings.

I predict even more unlicensed dogs in the future!! Not a good idea.
I think that until the City can assure us that the information provided to them to license anything is secure, we should not be renewing any license.
Yeah, since we can find out who complained about potholes and their addresses lets shut down the nature cities computer system until this is fixed..
Because dog licenses and potholes go hand in hand..
Better shut own the entire Internet, because with the right tools I can find out anything I want about anyone..that work for ya Gus..lol
Anyway we can be more paranoid ?
I heard there was a rally tonight infront of city hall for a phone book burning event! People are upset that their name and address is in the phone book.
P Val ….. go talk to the government. I did not create the right to privacy legislation.
Right now the City is in non-compliance.
So, you can find out anything you want to on the internet P Val? May I send you on a mission?
Who sets the prices of gasoline in PG at each station we have. I need their name, business phone number and private cell number so that I can talk to them.
Go for it!
That’s so they can pay the old outgoing city manager more money in the boost in pay he’s getting before he quits in a short while. Why else???
I think they use twitter … ;-)
They are much further advanced in the USA.
They use a regional randomizer set to a maximum 10% differential and everyone who is plugged into it is guaranteed to have the same average price of gasoline on a monthly basis giving consideration to key times of day and total sales.
Everyone thinks it is free enterprise at work, but it really isn’t.
Amazing what modern technology can do to the minds of the unsuspecting public … ;-)
Figures……..They have 2 people walking around checking to see if you have licenses for your dog and now they need more money!!!! Wasnt suppose to cost anything!!! More city BS
What is the proposed amount for business license?
Wish the city website would clarify the public meeting starts at 7 tonight and not 6.
Why does it take a week to put on last weeks council meeting video?
oh forgot, hunting season is upon us..:)
Sorry Gus, not interested in your quest. And what does it matter who sets the prices. We are paying to much, have been for decades, won’t change that by knowing who sets the price.
I do agree though, the USA is farther advanced when it comes to violating personal privacy.
Hey, I am with you P Val.
I am not interested in doing things I can’t do either. ;-)
How about considering cat licensing? I am so sick of the stench of cat crap and urine that emanates from my flower beds infront of my home! I pull out buckets of cat crap every couple of months… not from my cats!! Mine are not allowed outside.
Other cities have cat licensing, why don’t we? And how about having “animal” control do something about all the cats running around out of their yards? If the only animals they are going to take responsibility for are dogs, why not call it “Dog” control?
Totally agree financially_frustrated. The city ( and others ) are taking advantage of people who care about there pups. I have 3 pups and one cat. My cat is not allowed outside but i had to take out both my front gardens because they were litter box’s for the neighborhood. The other thing that bugs me is what is the licenceing paying for besides the person that walks around looking for unlicenced dogs? Unless i have my wires crossed i thought the spca was publically funded? I dont have any children but my taxs pay for school. Im not complaining about that but why doesnt it include some funding for the pound? The yearly renewal twists me the wrong way too.
“…and the city is not the only one…seems information about our medical was realeased not long ago.”
That would explain why I received two spam email messages pretending to be from my family doctor, even though my email address has never been made known to my family doctor! They were marked SPAM, so I deleted them immediately.
So Gus you have given up on trying to think for yourself? So then you will be continuing with your cut and pasting ;)
I have always paid for a dog license, I am not sure what the actual purpose of it is, and how do you justify the increase for essentially no service. We did have someone come to our door several years ago when we didn’t renew our license for our 14 yr old dog who was by then a dead dogfor . Really? They couldn’t figure out that it’s likely a dog has died and they came to our door to confirm it. To me that was a waste of city dollars doing that sleuthing. I am tired of our constant fee and tax increases.
I find it funny that the city is doing this as they have nobody and I mean nobody to enforce the bylaws because the city of Prince George has 5 bylaw enforcement officers and all are mandated to patrol the downtown core. So when it comes to bylaw enforcement regardless of what the bylaw is I have zero faith in the ability of the city to enforce any bylaw at all
I know the City has at least two animal control officers. They are not mandated to patrol downtown.
They do really well at controlling pet monkeys and servils. I have not seen any at large for years.
I am sure there are many other animals they do really well with controlling. ;-)
bears, monkey, giraffe, rhinos, snakes, zebra…or is it zebra.
