Prince George- The President of UNBC, George Iwama says it is an honour to be selected as one of the top ten schools offering undergraduate Engineering programs in Canada.
Iwama says “It recognizes the foundation we have started to create with our faculty, students, and education partners as we aim to expand our offerings in engineering to be of better service to communities and industry of our region at this critical time of growth and development."
The magazine, Corporate Knights a national supplement of the Globe And Mail Newspaper placed UNBC’s environmental engineering program (a collaboration with UBC) eighth in Canada above many much older and larger institutions such as the University of Alberta, Carleton, Concordia, and Ryerson.

That program is a good start to where we need to go.
However, we must understand that the first one to two years of most engineering programs are foundation science years and can easily be given at any University and many Community Colleges across Canada. In fact, CNC had for many yeas prior to UNBC arriving in PG (and may still have) transfer arrangements with UBC to accept students into second year.
The students attend two of the critical applied science (engineering) years at UBC. After that they return for a final year of field application at UNBC.
The UNBC site states it is an accredited program, so graduates can apply to become registered engineers.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, the program is not our own until the program is fully delivered here and is accredited on its own by the professional association.
2 of the hard core engineering years are spent at UBC.
