B.C. Conservative Switches Ranks

Friday, September 21, 2012 @ 12:09 PM

Prince George, B.C. – The B.C. Liberals have gained a candidate from the ranks of the B.C. Conservative party.

John Martin had   run for the BC Conservative Party in the Chilliwack-Hope riding in an April by-election.  He has just announced he  has resigned from the B.C.  Conservatives and  will see the Liberal nomination in Chilliwack.

His move  is viewed as an effort to reunite the right and prevent  an NDP victory  in the  May election next spring.

“The reality is that there is more that unites than divides supporters of free enterprise in British Columbia,” said Martin. “In 1975, Bill Bennett united the free enterprise coalition following the election of a disastrous NDP government. In 1997, Gordon Campbell united free enterprisers following Glen Clark’s election. I don’t want to wait until Adrian Dix and the NDP are elected to unite forces. I have made this decision to help prevent that from happening.”

Martin was welcomed to the BC Liberal Party in Chilliwack by MLA John Les  ( who has announced he is will not  seek re-election) and Laurie Throness, the BC Liberal candidate in the Chilliwack-Hope by-election.

They need to keep coming or the taxpayers of BC are going to end up with more FastCat ferries!

Agreed!

No
Dumb
Polition

I don’t get this. When this dude was elected it was based on a conservative platform. If he no longer subscribes to the conservative mandate then he should have to resign and go through another by-election.

The conservatives in the Chilliwack-Hope riding voted him in based on his political slant. I’m sure there was a Liberal candidate in that riding who didn’t get elected BECAUSE he was Liberal….

I tell you….if I was in charge…things would change dramatically…

There must be an election coming soon.

And do you really think there is any difference in the liberals or conservatives? Its the same thing with a different name is all. The same as crispy crunch wants to change the name of the liberals, it doesnt change thier philosophy, it is just a scam to try and fool people into thinking they are no longer pawns of big business.

Wow hope things change,Marten shot the hell out of the liberals in the By-election now he wants to be one?? man has no bloody principles. What did Clark promise if they win he can have Finance LOl

Socred > Liberal > Reform > Conservative > ?
Just a vicious cycle of a bunch of political opportunists! Not an ounce of integrity between them.

Faux Premier Clark.. Call the election NOW!!

How about $600,000,000.00 for a highway that goes nowhere. A convention centre, a hockey stadium (BC Place)
Ferries built off shore that are blessed with may breakdowns. 1.9 billion to service the provincial debtand the list goes on. And thjey gave away thje fast ferrkes that are still in operation today.
Cheers

Really? This is a totally disparging comment blanketing all of these party members…You are probably not old enough or do not have enough education to make a vote…too bad – another person drowed in the sea of political ignorance.

Actually I’m close to 70. I have probably been voting since before you were born!

Not only did I vote..BUT..I was also very active in provincial & federal politics for many years!

McGeer or Gardom ring bells for you? Lots of integrity there?

But you of course have the right to vote for these liberal et al candidates that lack the courage of their convictions.

Oh, one last thing..I’ve Googled the word “drowed” that you have in your post. Nothing. Perhaps you could enlighten those of us that you say “… do not have enough education to make a vote…”.

I am starting to understand the NDP platform – promise the moon on social programs and then wait until the voting public is old enough for them to win, to heck with the economy…

The Liberals eviscerated themselves. The NDP bring nothing to the table.

Vote Independent and break the cycle.

vote conservative and break the cycle. its the only sane way out at this point. Or hope for some sort of minority gov. Or wait for the inevitable Join Alberta movement if the NDP win, its not so bad, our tax burden would be instantly halved. So sad – the most beautiful province has never been able to attract decent political leadership.

Palopu: “Vote Independent and break the cycle.”

Keep on dreaming the dream, Palopu. If you have ever listened to most independant candidates, you begin to understand why nobody wants them.

hmmm so the guy that placed 3rd in the by election this spring in that riding wants to join the team that placed second in that by election.

Funny that someone that someone above mentioned the Fast Cat ferries … The way I recall .. the NDP government bought those … lost the election just as they were to be Delivered … The Liberals then Sold them for less than what they coulda got for them on the scrap metal market …

Buy High … Sell low … the Mantra of the BC Liberal Party.

This current government has got to go … We the sheeple have been lied to, defrauded out of many public assets for the past 12 years.
The Conservative party .. is not an option as they have yet to put together a full slate of candidates … and their own Leader John Cummins voted NDP last election. I am not saying that Adrian Dix and the NDP is the ultimate answer to the life, the universe and everything (thats 42 by the way). But even after their last debacle in the Leg … the province wasnt in the shit hole economically that it is now. They actually reported to the Leg. … Not cancelled sessions … Since I have been back in BC (2006) I have seen them not sit 3x (including this fall) and give themselves 43%+ raises in the last 6 years … While most British columbians have endured rollbacks, Frozen wages or minor raises that dont even amount to Cost of Living adjustments. We have seen fudge-it budgets from this liberal government that rely upon commodity prices … not quantifiable income … If anyone of us ran our household on what might be income (lets say bingo winnings) what do you think would happen… would Save-on-foods let you have the groceries in your cart that you couldnt pay for because you didnt win the jackpot? would Terrasen let you slide? how about BC hydro … would they not cut your power if you couldnt pay?

Think about it ….

Martin must think hes the Capt. Why else would anyone get on board a sinking ship?

BC Rail, HST, Drunk driving convicted Premier, Basi/Virk 6 million in taxpayer dollars for legal fees, etc, etc, etc.

These liberal bandits make the fast ferries look like child’s play!

The fact that some people are seriously considering putting the NDP back into power, and with Glen Clark’s right hand man Adrian Dix at the helm no less, shows how little everyone remembers from the 90’s.

JohnnyBelt you speak the truth……

I remember the 1990’s and the total lack of anything happening other than the odd NDP announcement for Vancouver. I think back to those days and I wonder if the MLA’s then new that the Province went past Hope????

I think a lot of people in this Province need to realize that no Government will be perfect. That’s just a pipe dream. At least we can say that the Liberals have tried to bring things to all parts of the Province.

Does anybody ever ask the NDP what they plan to do to drive business in this Province? Probably no plan whatsoever….

One would think that the usual NDP diehards would have gotten the message about the abject failure of the FastFerries by now and just treat the subject with silence instead of still trying to defend the whole sordid utter waste of money?

No! The NDP planned them, built them, put them into service and then began parking them. The NDP borrowed the money to built them and they ended up costing three times as much as they were budgeted for, even though Glen said that they wouldn’t cost one dollar more than the original stated cost! They were unfit for the service they were supposedly designed for. It took years to find somebody to make a bid for them. THey were tied up in Vancouver harbour for many years, costing millions every year to protect from salt water corrosion, plus the moorage fees.

JB and mwk, right on!

@Retired
“How about $600,000,000.00 for a highway that goes nowhere.”

You talking about the Sea to Sky Highway?
It does go somewhere, it’s called Whistler and if you keep going you will end up in PG. Take that route sometime and get some of your money’s worth.

A convention centre, a hockey stadium (BC Place)
Sorry BC place isn’t a hockey stadium it’s a football stadium/concert venue and it needed a new roof.

“Drunk driving convicted Premier”
Drinking and driving isn’t a criminal offense in the US so no driving conviction.

Dix falsified documents to protect his buddy Glen Clark. That alone should scare the heck out of ya!

So basically we in BC are screwed polically. I think I will stay home come voting day.

“Does anybody ever ask the NDP what they plan to do to drive business in this Province? Probably no plan whatsoever….”

This is the whole problem! Why should government be responsible for driving business? Let business drive business and stop relying on the taxpayer to pay your business a$$e$ out of debt. Taxpayers are sick and tired of paying your bills!

Pretty funny that all the liberal hacks and shills can come up with to try and keep their meal tickets in office is “the fast ferries”.

Now that the Liberals spending spree and reign of taxpayers terror is coming to an end they are telling us truth about the debt they have left this province with.
1.14 billion dollars. No wage increases for govt employees, no money for municipalities, etc, etc, etc.

Yup, those NDPers were sure bad when they were running this ship. Decks and ferries, oh so bad.
