Air Quality Advisory is Over

Sunday, September 23, 2012 @ 8:10 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The Air Quality Advisory for Prince George has ended.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 13 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site, 19 µg/m3 at the Exploration Place, 20 µg/m3 Forman Flats, and 9 µg/m3 at College Heights at 4 pm today.

The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 24 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 17 µg/m3 at College Heights and 28 µg/m3 at BCR at 4 pm today.

Based on the air quality data, the high levels were mainly due to emissions from industry and dust.

The end of the Air Quality Advisory means the "Free Fare for Clean Air" policy  that allows for free rides on Prince George Transit during an  Air Quality Advisory, will come to an end at 11:59 tonight.

so has anyone ever checked how transit use changes with the free ridership? Does it increase or does the city just give the normal daily users a free handout for a couple of days?

That is an interesting question
Cheers

A daily user would have a pass so they don’t get any added benefit at all. I am a semi regular user. I actually avoid the bus on the free days because I don’t want to be outside walking to and standing in the bad air as I have asthma and a baby. Although I’m not sure if the air in my house is any better living in the bowl. It smells less disgusting if you aren’t in the basement. The stink settles in there. Delicious. Can’t wait to move to higher ground.
